Potter and his friends were happy to help albus when he requested a very strong curse to be placed upon Tallulah Malfoy. After all as soon as they started messing with severus she started messing with them. They were glad when she graduated she was constantly putting hexes and bewitching them every time they messed with severus which only made them want to mess with him more once she was gone.
But albus did not foresee the darkness that arose in tom riddle when the love of his life was torn away from him. He took revenge as his grief grew with each passing day. He gained followers quickly. Everyone loved lula. She was a sarcastic ball of light but albus foresaw the darkness. When she came in to interview for the defense against the dark arts position he saw it and he feared what was to come. She needed to be stopped but he was so focused on tallulah that he didnt even notice toms dive into insanity until it was too late. James and lily potter were dead, sirius was sent to azkaban and lupin was in hiding. The little force albus had recruited were torn apart or dead. He felt awful. Even more so knowing that he might have been wrong.
