Aurora yawned as she exited her house quite awhile after Bella. Even though she slept in best she could, it seemed like it did no good.
She looked up from her porch and found Paul waiting outside leaned up against his truck. Despite the events that had occurred last night, he still seemed happy to see her. Aurora smiled back at him, dumbfounded by how he could see the tiredness in her eyes and the lazy attempt she made at dressing and applying makeup and still look so fondly at her.
"Hey, beautiful," he complimented as she approached him.
"Hey, muscles. Forget something?" She eyed his bare chest.
Paul chuckled thumping his chest. "Nah, it's how I like it. Its also how you like it so," he motioned to his body, "enjoy the show."
Right when Paul pulled Aurora in for a hug, Charlie happened to walk out the door. He saw a golden opportunity and seized it.
"Hold it." He started for his daughter and her shirtless friend. Charlie then extended his hand, "You must be the boyfriend I haven't had the privilege of meeting."
Aurora seemed desperate to leave, but Paul was more than happy to meet her dad. "That's me, sir. I can see where Aurora gets her sweet stache."
"Paul!" Aurora smacked at him and laughed.
Her dad, though, didn't seem the last bit impressed. "Uh huh, tell me, Paul what exactly are your intentions with my little girl?"
"Daaad," Aurora moaned in embarrassment.
There were a lot of jokes he could've made then, but he knew how much Aurora's dad meant to her. His opinion was very important to her.
"Honestly, Mr. Swan, I care a lot about your daughter. I just want to see her smile everyday and make her laugh every chance I get."
Aurora blushed. "Satisfied, Dad?"
"Hm," he hummed with no emotion. "Whats your last name, Paul?"
Aurora rolled her eyes, but Paul was unmoved. "Lahote."
"You from the reservation?"
"Yes sir."
"Great. Just so you're aware, son, I'm chief of police in this town. If anything ever happens to my daughter, I'm starting with you."
"I completely understand. If anything happens to her though, I'll be right there to help in anyway I can." Aurora could've sworn she saw Charlie's mustache twitch, but it was too quick to tell. "Like I said before, you're daughter is very important to me."
"Hm," he repeated. "Alright then, Paul."
Aurora beamed. "Does that mean you like him then?"
Charlie looked him up and down. "I'd like him more if he had a shirt on." Aurora elbowed her dad with a laugh and Paul smiled embarrassed. "Well," he checked his watch, "you kids better be off before you're late for school."
"Oh, he doesn't go to school with me, Daddy. He just likes dropping me off. See you tonight for dinner!" She called as she rushes to the opposite side of the truck, Paul right on her tail to open the door for her. After closing her door, he jumped in on the other side and the two waved goodbye to Charlie. Once they left, he raised his brows and nodded in approval. He did like Paul.
The ride started off in silence. Aurora peered over at Paul and saw an odd look in his eyes as he concentrated on the road ahead. She looked down in shame once she realized what he was doing. He was mulling over the events that had occurred the night before. How he managed to be there with her, she didn't know.
