"What're you going to do?"
Jacob and Aurora were laying down in the grass out behind her house staring up at the sky just glazing over their love lives. Ever since he had heard that Bella had left town with Edward, he had been on edge. He worried so evidently over her. It was touching to see.
Aurora groaned. That was the same question she had asked herself any times before. There was never a clear answer.
"I have no idea." She looked over at Jacob watching how he blinked in the sunlight. She chuckled to herself turning back to the sky but not before Jacob noticed.
"What?" He asked.
She shook her head. "I.." she sighed. "This isn't me!" She jumped up from the grass in anger. "I'm not the girl who gets stumped by crushes and boys and kisses! I'm the girl who gives a little and leaves you wanting more!" Jacob sat up and watched her with a smile. "I don't fall for guys and let them run my life. Hell, the only person I've ever been in love with was you, and I dropped that shit off like rock! This isn't me!" She declared once more.
Jacob's smile slowly fell.
Aurora noticed his expression and reran through her rant. She rolled her eyes. "Don't look so dumbfounded, it's not like you never knew."
"Rora," Jacob stood up in front of her, " I... why didn't you ever say anything?"
"Jake, you're in love with Bella. I don't go for second best." He didn't know what to say to her. He almost seemed uncomfortable, but that wasn't her intent. "Look, all I'm saying is that I'm lost and I don't know what to do... and I've never felt this way before." That brought back her best friend, and he hugged her feeling her pain.
" I have to go." Jacob whispered. "I'm taking over Paul's shift."
Aurora let him go. "Bella should be back tomorrow, will I see you then?"
"Not if the blood sucker will be expected," he growled.
She laughed a little and waved goodbye to him and went inside to find her dad walking through the front door. He saw her and gave her a half smile.
"Hey Rory."
"Hi daddy. I made dinner."
Charlie sniffed and raised an eyebrow. "Burnt hamburger helper?"
"I didn't say I was a chef."
He hugged his daughter. "It's perfect, thank you Rory." Charlie and Aurora had dinner and in spite of the fact that Aurora suggested ordering a pizza, Charlie insisted that nothing would be better than a homemade meal. They spoke about their days. Aurora had to make up most of her days events because she skipped school.
"Alright, look. I'll drop the curfew, but only if you take your newfound freedom to spend some time with some of your old friends. Get a little distance from.." he stalled, "him."
Aurora sighed, clearly annoyed with his concern. "He's out of town dad. I couldn't see him if I wanted to."
Charlie nodded and left it at that not wanting to push any deeper than that. After all, she wasn't the daughter that he worried about most. He was quick to go to bed afterwards. He kissed his daughter goodnight and went upstairs. Within minutes, Aurora could hear him snoring from the living room.
Alone in her living room, Aurora flipped around in her family chair and hung her head to the floor with her hair flowing down like a waterfall and her feet up in the air. She placed her headphones in her ears and mulled over the day she had. Everything always seemed to fall back to Paul. His eyes, his smile, his warmth, his muscles... was she in love?
