"You signed me up for what?" I mumbled as I got up from the couch.

"I signed you up for that talent show next week." My mom repeated as she was ironing a shirt.

"Why?" I furrowed my brows as I slouched back on the couch.

"Baby, you have a beautiful voice, why not show everyone?" She asked as she finished ironing what it looks like my outfit for tonight.

"Mama, I can't sing," I told her, my hands running through my hair.

"Kylea, listen to me." My mom put down her iron and sat next to me.

"You have a gift. A gift that can take you far, take a chance." My mom lifted my chin and smiled.

I sighed and gave her a small smile. "Fine, I'll try it out." She pulled me in a big hug.

The door knocked, and my mom got up and answered. "Hello, Bobby." My mom said.

"Hey, Mrs. James, is Kylea home?" He asked. I dusted myself off and walked up to the door.

"Bobby B. What's up?" I leaned against the door.

"Y'all gone ahead and have fun, but Kylea be back here before the street lights come on."

"Ok, ma." I waved at her and me and Bobby went to find the others.

"What's got you so slumped?" He asked.

"My mom signed me up for the talent show that's next week." I kicked a rock and sighed.

"What's wrong with that?" He furrowed his brows.

"Bobby, I can't sing in front of people. Besides I don't know what to sing." I crossed my arms, getting scared and nervous.

"You'll do fine, you practiced a lot of times with that one song that you wrote" He smirked.

"How did you know about that song?" I smacked him on the back of the head.

"You left your little songbook at my place remember?" He says as he held his head.

"Yea okay," I said unconvinced. "Plus, that was just a little serenade." I sat down on a bench. "For fun."

"How 'bout I can help you get ready for next week?" Bobby offered.

"Didn't you chicken out of the last talent show you did?" I tilted my head.

"Girl, you want my help or not?" He kissed his teeth.

"Sure, what do I got to lose?" I shrugged. "Aight, c'mon." He pulled me along with him.

Bobby and I walked into a building and I heard music inside.

We went in a room with the fellas dancing and Brooke was teaching them some moves.

"Finally, you made it." Ricky rolled his eyes.

"Hey, Lea." Ralph pulls me in a hug. "Hey." I smiled, hugging him back.

"Yo, Kylea get this," Mike said as he took a seat on the chair that was on the stage.

"Alright," I sat on the edge of the stage.

"So, Ralph over here says he kissed a girl," Mike says, I turned my whole body and faced Ralph.

"Zena? You kissed Zena?" I asked in shock. He nods with a smug grin.
