Maria knocked on her boyfriend's window, praying he was there. He opened it immediately and pulled her into his arms. Maria hugged him back without hesitation and began crying.
Eli didn't stop the hug, or ask why she was crying, he simply allows her to ruin his Tshirt.
When she finally pulled away, she told him everything that happened after he, Demetri, and Miguel went to the bathroom. "Connor . . . did he try anything?" Eli asked when she'd finished.
"What? No, you're crazy." Maria shook her head and went to sit on his bed. "Can we just . . . watch a movie? It's Friday."
"Yeah, okay," Eli climbed into bed beside her, and they decided on an old school dance movie.

Over the weekend, Maria spent almost all her time with Eli. Her mother had grounded her, but she usually snuck out. The times she wasn't with Eli, she was with Miguel who was still healing, or Connor. He'd given Maria his number, and she decided to call him Saturday morning when she got back from Eli's.
"I just wanted to say thank you." Maria blurted out as soon as he said hello.
"Oh, Maria, hey," There were loud noises in the background. "Can I call you back later?"
"Why? What's going on?" Maria honestly didn't care if he called her back, but she wanted to know what all that racket was.
"I'm at work," He yelled over more noise. "I'll call you back, babe."
Before Maria could scold or correct him, he'd hung up. She looked at her phone in shock, then burst out laughing. What the hell was that?
Connor called her back on his break, and explained to her that he worked at his friends uncles garage, so it was pretty noisy. And before they hung up, he'd called her babe again.
During dinner, Maria's phone went off. "Sorry, mom, I thought it was -"
"It's okay, go answer it." Carmen gave her daughter a sweet smile.
Maria gave her mother a grateful grin and ran down the hallway to her bedroom. "Hey, Connor, make it quick because I'm at dinner."
"I need your help." He said desperately, Maria could here the eagerness in his voice. "Now."
"Connor, I -"
"Please, Maria!" He begged. "You're the only one I could call."
She chewed her lip, thinking. "Where are you?"
"At the beach, on the South docks." Connor said.
"Okay, I'll be there in twenty." Maria hung up and ran back to the kitchen. "Mom, I need to go."
"Go where?" Carmen inquired.
"My friend needs my help, they sound desperate," Maria's practically begging her mother now. "Please mom?!"
Carmen looks at her daughter for a moment before releasing a sigh. "Okay, be back by 7:00."
"Thanks mom," Maria plants a kiss on her mother's cheek and grabs her jacket, rushing out the door.
Maria makes it to the South docks before twenty minutes is up, and she's panting. She just ran two whole miles without stopping for a breath. And the worst part was, Connor wasn't even in sight.
"Connor!" She called his name. "Connor!"
"Rahh!"
Maria jumps around going to kick whatever's behind her. Until she sees Connor standing there with a smug grin on his face and a laugh falling from his lips. "I got you!"
"Ugh, you gave me a heart attack!" Maria groans and punched his shoulder. He rubs the injured area. "Why'd you call me here?"
"Because, I'm lonely." He whispers seriously, and suddenly Maria's back is against a post holding up the boardwalk. "And I think you're lonely too."
Suddenly, Connor smashed his lips to hers like she's the only person in the world, grabbing her jaw roughly. Maria falters into him for a moment, though she'd never admit it. She pushes away from Connor, shoving him hard.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" She screams, though the question is more for herself. "Why would you do that?"
Connor looks at her confused. "But . . . you kissed me back."
"I have a boyfriend, Connor!" Maria scolded.
"I'm - I'm sorry, I didn't know," He stutters, blinking rapidly.
Maria stared at him for a moment, watching his heart break. "I'm sorry, I have to go." She squeezes her eyes shut and walks away from him, nearly tripping in the sand.
That's not what she expected to happen, and she hates herself for it. How could she even think about kissing Connor? She was with Eli, and he deserved better than her. Way better. She basically cheated on him.
By the time she got home, it was 6:30, and she was crying. No way Maria was going back into her house balling her eyes out, so she went to someone else's house.
Maria knocked on the door. "Hey, I know, this is unexpected, but I need someone to talk to. You busy right now?"
"No, come on in," Sensei said to Maria.
