Miguel wanders away from where Hawk is taking care of his sister, and the blue haired boy doesn't care. Maria is his top priority right now. "Hawk, want to hookup?"
Hawk's momentarily surprised. "I'm going to pretend you didn't say that because you're incredibly drunk."
"Baby, I want another!" She whines, and he knows she's talking about beer.
"Wait here," He'll give her one more beer, and that's it.
"Don't give her anymore." A surprisingly sober-sounding voice echos from behind Hawk.
He turns around to see Connor. "What do you think you're doing here? This is a West Valley High party only."
"Hey, man, I wanted to talk to her," Connor points to Maria. "But you had your tongue down her throat so that wasn't an option, and now she's really drunk."
"Talk to her about what?" Hawk crosses his arms in front of him angrily.
"Doesn't matter," Connor says absentmindedly. "We should get her home."
Connor hated this blue haired boy with everything he was, but Maria needed to get home and he didn't know how to take care of her. All Connor wanted was for her to be safe.
Hawk wanted to throw Connor over the canyon. Who was he to tell him how to take care of his girlfriend? Hawk could do this, Connor just needed to back off.
"No!" Maria protests. "Don't take me home! My mom will kill me if she sees me like this!"
Hawk sighs. "You want to come to my house?"
Maria doesn't answer right away. "I have to make an announcement!" She yells, getting up from where she's laying in the grass.
"Oh, shit." Connor mutters.
Maria gets on top of a cooler and stomps her feet to get everyone's attention. "I've got two things to say to you guys!" She yells at everyone, her words slurring. Someone turns down the music. "One, I'm not sleeping with four people, and I wouldn't ever sleep with Aisha, because I'm straight! Love you, girl!" She pointed to where Aisha stood to the side. "I'm only sleeping with one dude, and he's right here!" Maria points at Hawk wildly.
"Uh, babe, maybe -" Hawk tried to stop her, but she shushes him rapidly.
"I love, you Hawk!" Maria yells. "And you can do mad tricks with your tongue!"
"Okay, that's enough." Hawk starts to pull her down but she pushes him away once more.
"Wait, babe, I have one more thing to say!" She scolds him and he backs away, everyone staring at him. "Guys I just want you to know that I love you so much!" Maria begins crying hysterically. "I love you all with everything I am!"
Maria slips on the cooler and Hawk catches her bridal style before she can hit the ground.
"Okay, time to get you home." Hawk says to her sternly as she cries in his arms. The only problem is, Hawk doesn't have a car. But, Connor does. He turns to the blonde boy, and gives him a look that says I'm not going to ask you for help so you better offer it.
"Yes, I'll drive you guys to your place." Connor rolls his eyes and leads the two up the hill to his car.
★★★
Connor and Hawk didn't speak in the car whatsoever, but Maria did. She talked and cried and laughed hysterically. The two boys would never be friends they knew that, but it was as if they'd called an unspoken, temporary truse to get Maria somewhere safe.
It was weird how the girl could pull them together without even trying.
Hawk helped Maria into his window and he followed her, laying her down on his bed. He slipped off her shoes and jeans, putting her in one of his tshirts. He washed off her makeup and took off her jewelry, being extra careful since she was half asleep. He didn't want to hurt her.
"Baby?" Maria called with her eyes closed, laying down on the bed tiredly.
"Yeah?" Hawk whispered in reply, letting her know he was right there.
"Lay with me?" She whispered.
"Always." Hawk laid down beside her and wrapped her in his arms. She smelled strongly of alcohol, but they could fix that tomorrow. They both needed sleep, desperately.
Just before sleep took Hawk away, he was shoved from his own bed, falling on to the ground. He groaned, wondering why on earth Maria would just shove him from the bed.
"Back off, loser," She snarled, her eyes closed. "I have a boyfriend."
Hawk chuckled to himself. He couldn't believe he ever thought she would cheat on him. "Baby, it's me." He whispered, climbing back into bed.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Hawk," Maria yawned as she spoke, her eyes still closed, and then just like that she fell asleep.
Maria was a loyal partner, Hawk realized that. "I love you so much," He whispered, even though she was sleeping.
The room was silent, and just before Hawk fell asleep, he heard a muffled, "I love you too."
★★★
Who doesn't want a boyfriend that takes care of you when you're drunk? Or girlfriend? Huh, this makes me feel so lonely.
Okay, so I kind of foreshadowed some things here, like how Connor and Hawk worked together. I also think I'm going to cast another OC in the next book.
One more chapter!!
