Shorter chapter
While Melvin and O'Bannion drove Jodi home, the rest of us cleaned up the vomit and changed. Benny had a bit more to drink, and I could taste the alcohol on his breath from a mile away.
The girls and I were on the couch, all of us exhausted and stressed out.
"Cammy, I need to talk to you. Can we go upstairs?" Benny said.
"No. I don't want to talk," I said.
"I don't care. We're going upstairs."
"No!" I said to him before he grabbed my wrist and dragged me, "Hey, let go! Ow, you're hurting me!"
"What the fuck?" Shavonne said.
"Stay out of this, bitch!"
Benny threw me into his room and slammed the door.
"What is your fucking problem?!" I yelled, pushing him back.
"You ruined my party and embarrassed me in front of my friends!" He screamed at me.
"They're my friends too!!" I said, "I'm not having this conversation, you're drunk."
"You don't trust me, huh?" He said, "After everything I've done for you?! I've taken care of you when you're drunk, I've listened to you cry about your dad, I've stood up for you when my friends talk shit about you. I'm great to you, and you know it. So, stop fucking complaining about everything and enjoy what you have. Because there are a hell of a lot of people who have it worse than you, sweetheart."
I took one look at him, and I didn't know what to say. I didn't know if I should believe him, given how drunk he was, but you know what they say: Drunk words, sober thoughts.
"I want you out of my house in twenty minutes," he said before walking out the door. Shavonne and Darla had been outside the room, listening to what happened.
"Cammy, are you ok?" Shavonne said.
I shook my head repeatedly and started crying. They rushed over to me.
I shook my head, "I'm so sorry about everything. I ruined the party by fighting with Pink and Benny."
"Cammy, it's ok. It's not your fault," Darla said, rubbing my arm as Shavonne hugged me.
"I don't think I should be in a relationship," I said, "I don't think I'm capable of it. I mean, look at my parents. Especially my physically and emotionally abusive dad."
"You're not your parents," Shavonne said, "Besides, Kev and Chelle turned out ok, didn't they?"
I laughed and wiped my nose, "Those two are not ok. They are dependent on each other, and all they do is smoke weed and have sex. Other than that, they have nothing in common, and they'll go down in flames. It's like our family's cursed or something."
We continued hugging, and I continued crying.
"Can we leave in ten minutes?" I sniffled.
"Yes, we can," Darla said, kissing the top of my head.
Don POV
Pink and I were outside Benny's room, listening to Cammy cry to the girls.
"Do you think we should check on them?" I asked.
"No," Pink said, "This is what she does, Don. She gets upset, cries about her family issues, and expects people to pick up the pieces for her."
"Don't say that, man," I said.
"It's the truth!"
I sighed, "Pink, you're tired and drunk. I'll drive you home in a sec, let me just say bye to Benny."
Pink nodded and walked outside to the car while I went into the kitchen to find Benny on the couch with his eyes closed.
"Benny, you asleep, man?"
"Nah, man. Just resting," he slurred sleepily.
"Ok. Pink and I are leaving. Do you need anything?"
"Nah," he said. I nodded, and I was about to leave when Benny started speaking again, his eyes still closed, "I don't know if I should tell her."
"Tell who? Cammy?"
"Yea."
"Tell her what?" I said.
"I'm in love with someone else."
