This is gonna be a crazy chapter so buckle up bitches.
Two hours later, people started coming to the Floyd's house. By six, the whole crew was here. Shavonne, Darla, Kaye, Don, Slater, Kev, and Michelle. Mitch was also invited and came in with Kev and Chelle.
"Hey, Mitchie," I said, hugging him.
"Hey, Cammy," he said awkwardly.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm uh- just surprised you're not mad at me."
I raised my eyebrow and chuckled, "Of course, I'm not mad at you, Mitch. I'm not some dick who has a vendetta against everyone Jodi is related to."
He smiled out of relief, "Ok, good. Good. I'm sorry that happened, though. If I knew it was happening, I would've told you."
"It's not your fault," I said, "Look, it's in the past. For now, we're all gonna get fucked up. Coming?"
"Hell yea!"
When the coast was clear, Pink and I swiped two bottles. One of vodka and another tequila. Michelle and Slater didn't drink, so the rest of us ran upstairs and took shots. I set my limit to three because I didn't want to black out and get slobbering drunk in front of Pink's parents.
I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't know what Pink's parents think of me. They were nice to my face, but it seemed fake. Especially on his mom's end. And I know for a fact she didn't like my mom, nor did she agree with her parenting. I mean, considering how Michelle turned out. But all things considered, I turned out pretty well.
When I was about ten, Pink's mom suggested my mom get out there and find a man, to which my mom just shook off. My mom wasn't stable enough for another relationship, and she was traumatized enough by my dad to never want to have something serious again. She'd have one-night stands and men who'd maybe stay for coffee, but that was it. It was sad, but that's just the way things are.
I'm not my mom, though. I'll never be like her. I'm better than that.
We went downstairs and grabbed food. While we ate, I wandered around the room and said hi to people. After running into Pink's aunt and uncle, Don approached me.
"Hey, Cam!" he said, "Enjoying the party?"
"Sure," I said, "I mean I'm buzzed. The food is good. What's not to enjoy?"
He laughed, "Amen. So, you and Pink? How's that going?"
"It's fine," I said, "I mean, we're good."
"And?"
"And what?" I said, "It's just sex. Nothing more."
My voice trailed off, and my eyes wandered around the room until I found Pink. He was talking to Debra Palmer, a girl on the cheerleading squad with me. Her parents were close with Pink's. She twirled a lock of her blonde hair around her finger and laughed at whatever he was saying, maybe a little too hard.
"Man, I forgot Debra was a family friend," I said, "Talk about no personality."
Don looked at me and laughed again, "Oh my fucking god. No way."
"What?"
"You're jealous!"
I clenched my jaw and shook my head, "No, Don."
"Yes, you are."
"Shut up!"
"Come on, admit it," he said, "You like him. It's just sex, my ass."
My face softened because, at that moment, I couldn't deny it anymore. I did like him, maybe even love him. Just the pure thought of those two engaging together and laughing made me sick, let alone watching it. I know he didn't mean any harm, but I get jealous. Can you blame me?
