I wanted to dive more into my interpretation of Darla in the story. The way I write Darla is that she does care about her friends, but she is also quite self-absorbed and oblivious to her friends' problems at times.
I arrived at the pool parking lot, locked the car, and walked over to where Shavonne, Darla, and Kaye were. They were at a table under an umbrella.
"Cam, are you ok?!" Shavonne said.
"I'm fine!!" I said hastily before taking my clothes off and walking into the showers.
There was this stupid rule about showering before entering the pool. They put too much chlorine in the pool, and the people there don't want to risk getting sued if someone gets a skin irritation.
I found an empty shower, turned on the water, and started sobbing as it hit my body. All I could think about was that twenty-four hours ago I had a boyfriend and a best friend who loved me, and now I didn't.
I scrubbed my body almost as if to scrub Benny's hands and touch off me, but I knew it wouldn't work.
I got out of the shower and held my head down so no one could see me crying, and I walked until I collided with someone. I looked up, and it was Shavonne. Without saying a word, she hugged me tightly, and I sobbed in her arms.
Five minutes later
I told the girls what happened, and they all looked quite terrified.
"Cammy, that's," Kaye said, "That's assault."
"I wouldn't say that," Darla said.
"Touching someone without their consent is assault, Darla," Shavonne snapped, "We're not going to invalidate what just happened to Cammy. She's hurt and traumatized."
"I didn't mean it like that-
"Darla, just stop talking and let me and Shavonne do that," Kaye said, annoyed, "Cam, do you want to call the cops on him or get a restraining order."
I shook my head, "Too much work, and there's no way the cops would believe me. This is the '70s, and we live in Texas."
"She's right," Shavonne said, "I think we just need to distance ourselves, and if he tries anything again, we fight back."
"Fight back against who?"
We turned around to see Don, Pink, and Kev walking toward our table. Don kissed Shavonne, hello, making us all roll our eyes playfully. Pink looked over at me for two seconds before we made eye contact, and he looked away.
"Kev, you been to my house today?" I said.
"No, what's up?"
"Well, you should know that my mom's pissed at both you and Chelle," I said, "She knows about the car accident, that you two drove high, and all the weed you stashed in the back. If I were you, I'd suggest not coming over until I give you the green light. She's already threatened to make my sister break up with you at least twice."
"Oh, shit," Kevin said.
"Can someone please fill me in here?" Kaye said.
Later
With everything explained, and a few hours spent at the pool, we headed home. Kaye, Shavonne, and Darla went together, and Kev and Don went together.
I didn't know where I was going, but I didn't want to go home.
"Hey, can you drive me home by any chance?" I turned and saw Pink walking toward me.
"Why me?"
"Because I just want to talk and all," he said, "And I know you don't want to go home, so you're welcome to stay at my place."
I wasn't sure why he was being so nice all of the sudden, but it was better than walking in the door and hearing screaming and crying.
We reached Pink's house and went inside.
"You hungry?"
I shook my head.
"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
"Just- this whole thing with Benny and Jodi."
I scoffed, "Yea, you win."
"I win?" he said, shocked, "Why do I win?"
"Because now we're in the same boat," I said, "We both got cheated on by someone we love, but I've got it worse because he did it with my fucking best friend."
"Oh, let's not play this my tragedy's bigger than your tragedy game," Pink said, getting frustrated with me.
I stood up and marched over to him, "What? I'm not allowed to allow in self-pity after being heartbroken?"
"Hey! I did the same thing yesterday, and you said I was overreacting," Pink said before laughing to himself, "And you know what? Last night, Benny admitted to being in love with someone else, and Don and I were almost certain it was Jodi, but we didn't tell you that."
"Really?" I put my hands on my hips, "And what made you think that?"
"Cammy, think about last night and every single interaction those two have had recently."
So, I did, and that's when it all hit me. Everything lined up, and it made sense. Jodi apologizing to me, Benny whacking her ass with a paddle, all those secrets they whisper in each other's ear.
"Oh my god," I said, laughing nervously and putting my hands on my head, "Oh my god, I'm such an idiot."
"Shit, I could've told you that," Pink said.
I brought my head up, "Fuck you!"
"Yea, fuck you too."
Pink grabbed my waist and pressed his lips to mine. I kissed back before he picked me up and threw me onto the couch. We tore off our clothes and kissed and groped until we were completely naked.
I looked down, and I gotta say, it was way bigger than I imagined. Bigger than Benny's, that's for sure.
"You sure you want this?"
I nodded, and he slowly pushed himself inside of me, biting into my neck while doing so. The moaning was so loud that it echoed throughout the entire house, and I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbors heard us too.
Pink went in and out faster as his mouth moved down to my nipple, and he said a few things against my skin as I tangled my fingers through his long brown hair.
"Cammy," he said, "Cammy, I'm gonna come."
"Pull out," I managed to get out in between the moaning and panting.
A few seconds later, he pulled out and got it all over my stomach.
Pink got off of me, and we sat up and slowly put our clothes back on.
"So, you still not hungry?"
"I could eat."
