Deuce was relieved beyond measures when they finally arrived at Sam's shop after not making a fool of himself in front of [Name] who was happily looking around the shop and clearly content in his presence. It had never occurred to him that [Name] was a girl, well, he knew she was a girl in an all-boys school, but it never occurred or mattered to him until they were alone together. There was always Ace or Grim with him and her for the past week, they were almost a damper to her like a parasol on a warm summer's day, but now they weren't present, the light was blinding in is eyes. She was blinding, and he didn't know what to do, what to say. He just felt... Nervous... He always had been around girls.
Was he intimidated? No, Deuce knew that [Name] was a wonderful person and though she could be a little mean sometimes, he knew she was genuine through and through. Was he shy? Definitely not, especially since his past made him braver than most.
Deuce decided he was scared, not of [Name] but of the connection. Fear of rejection. Deuce was certain he liked her, he really really liked her and though he had only known her for a week, he wanted to know her for longer. He wanted to know her interests, her hobbies, what her favourite subject was, everything at her own pace - her to tell him all. But he was scared that the connection he craved would never be, she'd found out about his past, what he's done, and what he did and ultimately reject him.
Still, he knew he would have to tell her one day. She deserved to know and he would respect her decision, even if it hurt his heart. But for now, he would remain silent, his arms interlocked with hers and relish the moment of comfort.
Unknowing that day would be today.
"Pardon us. Wow, this place is amazing. There's a crystal skull, grimoires... What kind of taxidermy is this?" Deuce commended the strange decor of Sam's shop.
Suddenly a poof of green smoke erupted in front of Deuce and [Name], startling both of them, and [Name's] grip tightened on his arm. With a long wave of his arm, Sam almost pulled the smoke away to reveal himself like a curtain, face illuminated with the green glow before it settled and introduced himself loudly.
"Hey! My lost little demons, how goes it? Welcome to Mr S's Mystery Shop. What can I do for you today? A charm for uncharted lands? Mummy of an ancient king? Or how about some cursed tarot cards?" Sam had black and purple dreadlocks flipped stylishly over the right side of his head and on his skin and wore a patched top hat and blazer in muted blacks and purples. His piercing magenta eyes immediately latched onto [Name] and sparkled with recognition. "AH! [Name], my little devil, a pleasure to see you again in my humble store, say what can I get for you this time? A rubber goose? A green taxidermy moose? OR OR perhaps some guava juice?""Sounds intriguing but we just here for some ingredients for a mont blanc, our friend got himself in trouble so he needs a tart... Long story," [Name] explained with a wave of her hand.
"We'd like the things written here." Deuce handed over the list of ingredients, which Sam plucked from Deuce's grip with two fingers like a petal from a flower and began to read it out loud.
"What what? Whip cream, eggs, tuna - I know who asked for that hmmm...That little rat bastard? Yep. A nice sweet lineup for a strange set of circumstances, you should tell me about it sometime... Ok! Coming right up," Sam vanished with a wave of his hat, his body vanishing under it leaving only his hat behind. Taking [Name]'s baskets from her hands before doing so.
"Ooooh... He really has them." Deuce said. "Rather a dramatic entrance and exit though..."
"That's Sam for you."
