"Jace! We're home".Adelle said throwing her car keys, bags of groceries and her jacket on the counter table.

A door closed and footsteps followed, I moved my head to where the footsteps came from. I've only heard stories about Jace, Adelle's youngest and only son and from what I've heard, he's not one of the good ones, probably because he's the only child, something we have in common and he just stood there staring at us.

"Ma".Jace finally said after a few seconds of silence and just staring at me and his eyes never moved from me.

"This is Hazel".

"Hazel?".He asked looking me up and down.

"Yes, she'll be living with us from now on".

He moved his eyes to Adelle."What do you mean she'll be living with us from now on? Doesn't she have her own home?".

"Jace".

."I'm just asking".

"She'll be living here, Jace".

"Like forever?".

Adelle sighed and looked back at me and I'll smiled."He'll show you to your room".

"Her room? Since when do guests get their own rooms? And I'm showing her nothing".

"Jace! What the fuck is wrong with you? Stop being so fucken rude and take Hazel to her room".Jace frowned and picked up my bag."And Jace, be nice".

He just smiled, sarcastically walking away and I followed him, he kept glancing back at me and I kept walking with my head held up high. I'm not good at playing scared or playing the victim and if I find you rude and annoying, like Jace you see it on my face.

"So, Hazel, how old are you?".I looked up at him expecting to find him staring at me but he wasn't and I said nothing."Nothing? Really? Rude, this is your room".

He said pushing opening a bedroom door, I moved my eyes from the back of his head to the room painted in pink, pink? Seriously?. He moved his eyes to me. I finally looked up at him, my eyes meeting his and he just stood there waiting.

"Thank you".

He just stood there, still staring at me I got in my bedroom and pushed the door closed on his face. He doesn't like me and I don't like him and we don't have to pretend, unless Adele's around, she would want us to get along. We should get along, I'll be living here after all, we should put our differences aside.

Jace knocked on the door then something hit the door and I waited for the footsteps and when I heard them, I got off my bed and opened the door. My bag was on the floor. I threw it on the bed and took off my jacket throwing it on the bed too and I sat on the floor, my hands on my face.

I never thought I'd ever have to be adopted, especially not under this circumstances, how did I even get here? Why me?.

Waking up was all but great, I had to try and remember where I was and once again, my heart broke into million pieces. It's been a week since my mother's death and it feels like it was only yesterday. I still can't get over it. She died leaving me all alone, again.

Adelle pushed the bedroom door after a soft knock, I looked up at her standing by the door with a smile on her face, holding the door handle, opening the door slightly.

"Morning sweetie".

"Morning".

"Do you want to skip school today? You can, just this once though, I'll give them my angry face and they will ask no questions".

I sat up straight and my head started throbbing from last night's crying."No, it's okay, I'll go".

"Okay, wake up then or you'll be late oh and Jace will take you".
