Running to safety

The next morning Mrs. Martinez drops me off at home. I wave goodbye to her and Olivia after I grab my things walk inside lock the door behind me walk into my room and set my shopping bags down. I take my shoes off sitting them in my closet still wearing the pajamas Olivia let me borrow,  hearing a knock at the front door.

I walk back through the house not seeing anyone at the front door before I open it seeing a picture of me and Olivia hanging out together taped to the inside of the screen door. I snatch it out looking at it. I slam the door shut tossing the picture into the trash can walking back through the house sitting down in the living room pulling a blanket over me turning on the tv. I got a call on my phone from my dad. "Alyćia, how's everything going." He asks his voice sounding more tired than usual.

"Everything is okay dad, I'm back home Geny and Olivia just dropped me off." I say listening as he yawns into the phone. "Kansas weather hasn't been too easy on me." He says tiredly his Hispanic accent coming through stronger. "Take a break, Dad you're not too far from home and I'll be fine." I say hearing my father sigh fighting against his better judgment. "Fine I'm going to stay here an extra day to get some rest and refuel." Dad mutters giving into my reassurance.

"I'll see you when you're home papa." I say hanging up and sitting my phone down. Turning on the TV occasionally glancing out the window. Feeling absolutely paranoid I close my curtains trying to pay attention to the tv. Until my phone rings. I look at it seeing the unknown number which Da'Vonte had called me from before. "I hope you got the message." He says smirking into the phone. "You know stalking is a misdemeanor," I say rolling my eyes and turning down the television. "I've got people who do it for me, kings don't do the work of foot soldiers," he says before the line goes out. I click off my phone going to my bedroom climbing into bed, scrolling through Instagram until it gets late feeling my stomach rumble.

He's right even when he doesn't know it, I think to myself sighing not wanting to get out of bed. Instead of cooking I eat the leftovers Ms. Martinez sent me home with, glancing out the window seeing a figure standing outside in a dark green hoodie.  I can't stay here in this house alone. Not like this. I quickly finish my food putting my dishes into the sink before going into my room changing into some black sweat pants and a white hoodie. Slipping on my panda Nike dunks.

Putting everything into my pockets walking to the kitchen exhaling and opening the door looking outside. The street was empty and the boy was no longer standing across for my house. I slipped out the door locking it being sure to leaving on lights in the house. I rush down the block looking around for any passing cars and people. After a while of walking I turn the corner almost running to Spooky's house seeing him standing in the yard.
