It was late June, not much longer until my due date. The idea of keeping it secret from Oscar was eating at me. I had done so much for myself the past few months with the help of my aunt and dad. I have my own vehicle, a nice truck with a back seat. A career path since I'm a student nurse and I can work at any local hospitals around.

"Be safe going out there, you never no what kind of evil you'll run into around freeridge." My aunt says sitting at the kitchen table looking down at a crossword. "I know auntie, but I've gotta go back to the house." I say grabbing my car keys and purse from the counter. My dad was considering selling the house, since the two of us no longer stay there, so this was my opportunity to go back to freeridge with a decent reason why, without having to tell abeni who my babies father is, which she hasn't pressed much on the matter of.

"I'll call you later." I say walking out the front door getting my in truck and driving to freeridge. I park in front of the house getting out and walking to the front door unlocking it with my old house key and turning on the kitchen lights. The house was not the same, my father sold or donated all the stuff that cluttered the house not having a use anymore, only keeping things he'd need when he'd return from trips. I could feel the heat creeping in from the screen door while looking around, our old photos were still hanging on the wall a thin layer of dust covering everything. I could tell my father no longer felt at home in freeridge. There are some empty taped up boxes my father had left unpacked laying in the kitchen. The home my family grew in seemed like an empty shell.

I sighed locking the screen door then sitting my things down on the kitchen island I walked through the house turning on lights as I go looking at the things my dad couldn't decide to part with. I sat down on our old bar stools pulling out my phone calling my dad. "Alyćia, what's going on?" He asks answering the phone sounding a bit muffled.
"I'm back home, just thought I'd call and ask when you'd be coming in." I say leaning against the kitchen island. "I'm not sure mija I've been meaning to call and talk to you but I haven't had time." He says and I huff standing up from the island. "What are you doing back in Freeridge." He asks concern lacing his voice.

"I've gotta see Oscar make things right." I say knowing my father wasn't a fan of the idea. "You be safe, I know you think what you're doing is right but I don't trust them." He says his voice crackling through the phone. "Don't worry about my papa I'll see you soon." I say telling him goodbye before handing up the phone.
