Fallen Guardian

15. An Impossible Choice

Golden emerald eyes grow wide as anger and fear tear through the guardian.

" What???! Have you lost your mind??! You wouldn't dare!", Izuku shouts.

" Oh but I would! Continue to disobey and you will watch it happen!"

The greenett's chest is heaving, powerful veins popping in his arms and neck, his back muscles near his wings moving tensely under his skin.

" That's insane! That goes against everything we are as Guardains! We protect lives we don't take them!"

" We do if mouthy angels continue to disobey! And I am not a Guardain, I'm above that. This is how we keep order up here, it's how we make an example out of you so other angels don't make the same stupid mistake!"

Gold eyes burn bright.

" Loving him will never be a mistake! I refuse to believe you can do this ! I refuse to believe that All Might would allow you to do this!"

Endeavor glares with burning eyes.

" I told you, he left me in charge of this situation and I mean every word I say Guardain, if you defy this ruling Katsuki Bakugo will meet his end before his time. So the choice is yours , continue this and let him die or step down and he lives."

Izuku snaps his attention to Hawks.

" Is this true?! Can he do this??"

Hawks looks at the angel desperate for an answer, desperate to hear him tell him no, but as much as he may want to, he can't.

He sighs heavily , a yellow eyed gaze glancing down at his boots.

" It's been done before. Hardly ever, only one other time that I can even think of and it was for something much more severe then this, but the short answer is yes, it can be done"

Izuku's heart drops into his stomach.

Realization slams into him like a truck.

Tears begin to brim emerald eyes because he knows he has no choice. His back is against the wall with no place left to go.

His heart is hammering against his chest, feeling like it's shattering with every beat.

He must leave Katsuki's side in order to protect him even if it means it kills part of the angel himself.

He turns his head refusing to let the defeat in his eyes be seen but Hawks can feel it.

" F-fine. I will step down as his guardian but... but I want to be the one to tell him myself"

" No. You're duty to him is resolved immediately, you will go no where near him any longer, if you try to you put his life at risk"

Izuku can't believe what he's hearing he's getting ready to respond when Hawks does.

" Oh come on, that's stupid. Let the kid say goodbye and explain why he's vanished on his charge. What harm is ten minutes going to do ? Have a damn heart Endeavor" , the angel says with annoyance.

Endeavor shoots Hawks a death glare.

" I don't need one for this and no, not even ten seconds. This mess is over and we have already spent too much time on it. You will go back to earth guardian and await your new assignment, and maybe this time you'll be able to focus on your job"

Without another word Izuku is blinked back to earth in an empty alleyway on a cool September day.

He isn't sure what to do, or even how to react.

He's shocked and heartbroken. He's never felt anything like this before but the pain seems almost unbearable. He wonders if this is close to what death feels like.
