Chapter 21

Leni called Risa the next afternoon.

"Hello?"

"Ris"

"Hi" Risa greeted her. Even if she could not see her she could imagine Risa's smile

"Hi" Leni smiled

Risa in her office was biting her lip so hard to stop herself from squealing.

*Risa bakit ka kinikilig* she asked herself

She didn't know why but a simple call was all it took for her day to be brighter.

"This is a little bit weird for you too right?" Risa asked her

"Hmm. Still, it's good to hear your voice" Leni said.

She had to admit she had this urge to call Risa just to hear her voice and talk to her for a while.

Risa was silent after that. She had a hand on her mouth and couldn't drop her smile

"Stop that please" she said when she calmed down

Leni furrowed her eyebrows

"Stop what?"

"Stop mo yang sweet talk na yan." Risa said

Leni smiled

"It's not sweet talk senator. Nagsasabi lang ako ng totoo" she teased

"VP kung hindi mo titigilan yan sayo ko sesend ang bill  ng check up ko" Risa said

"Check up? Para saan? You're not feeling well?" Leni asked with concern in her voice

Risa chuckled on the other line

"Oo. Yung puso ko kase hindi na kaya. From heartbreak to kilig. Ang bilis na kasi tumibok kaya papa check up ko" she joked

Leni sighed and shook her head. It did make her feel guilty though hearing she was heartbroken and knowing it was because of her.

"I'm sorry"

Risa stopped chuckling.

"It's over na. Kaya okay na. No need to be sorry" she assured Leni she was okay

"So why did you call?" Asked Risa

"I asked the girls to be home tonight. I will talk to them" Leni said

Risa smiled

"Do you need me there with you?"

"No. It's something I need to do on my own muna. But I don't know how this will turn out"

"Still thank you for trying"

Leni smiled

"You're worth it"

Risa touched her chest where her heart was situated, checking if it was still functioning.

"You really want me to have a heart attack Maria Leonor" she paused before continuing  "anyways I'm here if you need me"

Leni smiled

"Ris"

"Hmm?"

"Thank you. For not giving up on me"

"Never"

"I have to go na senator. I don't know when I'll get the chance to call you again"

"I will wait. Focus ka na muna sa mga bata. Nandito lang naman ako when you're ready na" she said.

They ended the call and hoped this will go the way they wanted.

Risa knew this was her last chance. If Leni's daughters were against it she knew the VP would not have the strength to go against them. But it was already a huge thing that Leni was going to try talking to them. So she prayed that they would get a chance to happiness.
