"No. Absolutely not." Angel says as I follow her out of the kitchen and into the living room. She picks up some of the toys that Lilly left out, giving me her back.
"If I don't do something about him, he could go after my friends!" I exclaim, following her up the steps.
"You can't do it, Evelyn. It's dangerous." She says, walking down the hall toward Lilly's room.
"My entire life is dangerous! I need to do this, Angel!" I speed in front of her, making her stop. She sighs in aggravation. "I can fight him. I'm strong enough!"
"What if something goes wrong? What if he gets what he wants? You can't go after him alone, Evelyn." She sighs, making eye contact with me.
"I'd rather go alone than bring you guys with me. I'm not gonna pull you into my mess."
"You already have, Evelyn." She sighs. "You are our friend. Whatever mess you make is our mess, too." She walks around me. "Especially since you just love to cause trouble." She mumbles, walking into Lilly's room.
"That's not my fault!" I exclaim, following after her like a lost puppy. "Everyone likes to get on my bad side."
"What about the guys who you fought in an alley?" She asks, putting the toys in the toy box.
"I've fought in a lot of alleys. You'll have to be more specific."
"The guys who kidnapped you before you met me." She turns toward me. "You picked a fight with them. With Adam. With so many more, and why? Why did you do it?" I open my mouth to speak, but she beats me to it. "Because you felt the need for revenge. Because you felt the need to protect your family and friends.
"You going to Jeremy is picking a fight with him. And this time, we don't know if you'll make it out."
"I need to do this, Angel. I'm willing to take that risk." I state, giving her a desperate look.
"If you go, I go with you." She bargains, crossing her arms.
I shake my head. "No. I can't—"
The air suddenly shifts. Almost like time has...slowed down.
"Evelyn, what are you doing?"
"I'm not doing anything." I state. Black smoke surrounds the floor, and suddenly, I feel someone beside me.
"Time's ticking down." Jeremy whispers in my ear.
"Evelyn!" Angel yells, but her voice sounds muffled. Like it's underwater. My head turns to him, but it feels like it's moving slower. He must've slowed down time somehow.
Is that possible?
I manage to break through, and suddenly, he's pinned beneath me. "Get out of my head!" I demand, growling at him.
Evelyn!
"I'm not in your head." He smirks at me. "You're the one who slowed down time."
I fly away from him as time returns to normal. Only, instead of flying to the opposite wall, I'm flying back into the wall by the door, as if I never moved from my spot at all. I fall to the floor with a thud and my body begins to ache in pain.
