"Hey" I look beside me to find a smiling Emma. I haven't talked to her since the restroom and that was only a week ago.
I notice her hair is straightened. She's never done that before, it looks good on her but I loved her curls.
"Hey." I smile. "You straightened your hair." I point out.
"Yeah, according to my dad it looks better."
I frown. "That's not true." Her curls are beautiful.
"I know. I just remind him of my mother and he hates it. If he could turn me fully white he would in an instant." She smiles as if it doesn't bother her but I know It hurts her. She's always hid how she really feels about things.
"You're beautiful just the way you are. You don't have to please him."
She looks down to her sandals. "Not like I have a choice, he tells me to do something I have to do it."
I sigh. "Soon you won't have to listen to him anymore."
"I know." She pauses and looks to me. "Do you have any plans right now?" A small smile pulling at her lips.
I hesitate, I was gonna go to Sadia's but I can go over later. "No."
"Wanna go for Ice cream?"
I grin. "Sure. The one we always went to?" I push open the door leading to the school parking lot, holding it open for her to walk out.
"Yeah."
"I'll be there after I drop Aya off." I say as I glance at Aya leaning against my car, a glare my way.
"Ok."
I watch her walk off before going to me car. As I walk to my car I text Sadia letting her know I'll be over later.
"Please tell me you aren't dumb enough to date that bitch again." Aya says once I look up.
"Wow you have a potty mouth, I'm telling on you."
Her eyes widen and hands raise in mock surrender. "Ooooo, I'm so fucking terrified."
I snort. If only moms knew how Aya really acts. Actually I'm sure Mamá would think it's funny. "You are too grown for your age."
She rolls her eyes. "Seriously, are you dating her again?"
"No, not that it's any of your business." I go around and get into the car.
****
"I miss this." Emma says quietly as we walk down the sidewalk, Ice Cream cone in hand.
I lick my lips of any ice cream before looking her way. "We can still have it, some of it, as friends. You can have all of it with someone else. There is someone out there for you, just treat them right and make sure they do the same for you because you deserve the world Emma."
Her eyes gloss over before she looks away. "I really fucked up, there is no one else like you. What ever girl gets you is lucky ."
I scoff. "I'm nothing special, I promise."
Hers eyes lock on mine a small smile on her lips. "But you are, you're the whole a deal Ariel, you're funny, smart, caring, beautiful, just everything someone wants in a person."
I grin ignoring the lump in my throat. I wish she could've been like this when we were together. "That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me." I take a lick of my ice cream.
Her bottom lip pokes out a bit in thought. "I know and it's sad."
"Well you can compliment me now whenever you like, shouldn't be too hard if I'm so great." I grin.
