You started feeling a little uncomfortable and lowered your head while rubbing your arm nervously. “So what does the book say so far?” Dante suddenly asked looking at you, you brought your head up and looked over at him “Well so far what I’ve read was the basic facts on them… and it’s just like I’ve always believed it to be” you said smiling “Oh and that is?” he asked looking interested “That vampires drink blood whether it’s from an animal or human although they favour human blood more and they can’t eat human food, they can’t be in the sunlight cause it will kill them, but they can be in artificial light, but if he/she is a dhampir, meaning either the mother or father was human and then the other a vampire, can be in the sunlight because he/she is then half human and half vampire.” you said pointing on the page where you read from.

“Furthermore vampires hate garlic and even onions, vampires have pale skin and their skin is also cold, a cross doesn’t do anything to them and neither does water they just don’t particularly like them… they also have no reflection in a mirror. Vampire’s abilities vary a lot from vampire to vampire, but every vampire has the ability of supernatural strength, speed and healing. There are a lot of abilities that vampires get born with like mind reading, visions, mind control and in some rare cases even telekinesis it just depends on the family history of the vampire. Vampire’s 5 senses are also way better than that of humans. The thing that I’ve been wondering about the most was the way a human was turned into a vampire and in this book it says that a human must drink a vampire’s blood to become a vampire as well, it presents vampirehood as a gift that is given deliberately and consciously, rather than simply a side effect of a vampire’s feeding. The other thing that puzzled me was the aging, once a human is turned he/she will stop aging from that moment on.” you finished and then looked over at Dante.

“Well everything that you said there sure does make the most sense, don’t you agree?” Dante asked looking at you “Yes I definitely agree with you, this is what makes the most sense to me and I feel like this is all true” you said smiling and flipping through some more pages in the book. Dante stared at you for a few seconds then smiled “I’m glad you feel that way… so what else does it say about dhampirs?” he asked moving a little closer to you. You started to feel a little nervous and quickly shifted your attention to the book “Oh… well… uhm let me see” you said and flipped through some pages, you stopped and pointed on the page on the right “Here it is… it says that the dhampir is a rare and intriguing creature; a hybrid, half-human, half-vampire. It’s rare because a vampire, being essentially a reanimated corpse, is unable to reproduce in the same way as a human” you said and looked over to Dante who looked a little sad for some reason.

“Dante, is everything okay?” you asked still looking at him, he quickly looked you in the eyes then back at the book “I’m fine, please continue” he said smiling slightly. “Uhm okay then well it continues by saying that in some traditions it can take several days for a vampire’s victim to die and rise as a vampire himself, and in these cases, if he can make a human woman pregnant, the child may be born as a dhampir. Alternatively, if a pregnant woman is turned by a vampire when she is close to having a baby, the result may also be a dhampir. Dhampirs have all the abilities of vampires; the supernatural speed, strength, healing and all the rest including the enhanced senses and they also have all the traits of a vampire; the pale and cold skin, no reflection and so on, but they can be in the sunlight and can eat human food if they want to, but to ‘live’ they still need to drink blood. Dhampirs are also better at controlling their need for blood, most of them only drink because they need it to survive, but just like the vampire they also crave it even if they don’t actually want to” you said shifting your eyes away from the book as you finished reading.

You lifted your head up and looked over to Dante who once again had a sad expression on his face. You lifted up your hand and put it on his shoulder “Dante, are you sure everything is okay?” you asked trying to look into his eyes, he suddenly blinked his eyes very fast as if trying to wake up then turned his head towards you and gave a little laugh “Yea I’m fine Lilly, really I… uhm just got a little distracted that’s all… nothing important” he said looking away from you. You nodded your head even though you didn’t really accept his answer, but you decided to let it go anyway.

“Say it’s already 1 pm, you must be hungry” Dante said standing up and holding out his hand towards you “What?! It can’t be… hell time sure flew” you said shocked and then shyly took Dante’s hand and he pulled you up off the bed. He laughed “Hey you know what they say, time flies when your having fun” you giggled “I guess so”. “Come on let’s go get some lunch, I don’t want you fainting here in my house then go home and tell your parents that you visited some guy and he almost let you starve to death” Dante mocked while starting to walk to his bedroom door, you followed him “Hey I won’t faint if I don’t eat! I might just not have much energy then and I wouldn’t tell my parents that either… I don’t expect you to have to feed me, I’ll be just fine… besides I’m not hungry anyway” you said stopping a few feet from Dante who was standing in front of his bedroom door. “Oh no you don’t, I’m not accepting that excuse you’re going to eat something… besides I don’t mind, you’re my guest here” he said grabbing your hand and opening the door then dragging you out of his room.
