"Tati!"

"Yes mum!"

"Come down here please!"

"Ugh!" I groaned lowly and propped myself off my bed to answer my mum. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I saw Jessica there in her outside clothes and I just knew what it was about to be.

"You need me to take Jessica to the park?"

"Yes. Courtney can't do it she has a test tomorrow so she needs to study."

"How do you know I'm not busy reading too?" I asked as I opened the fridge to pull out a pack of green succulent juicy grapes that were clearly screaming my name.

"Were you?" She asked me knowingly.

"You know I wasn't." I said and we both laughed. Everyone at home knew I rarely ever read in the house. If I had an assignment I made sure I finished it at school and if I had tests I stayed back to read at school but something I never wanted to do was read at home. I tried my best to separate my school life from my home life.

"I'll go get dressed."

Back in my room I pulled out a hanger with a pre-planned outfit consisting of a red and black flannel and a pair of black shorts. I quickly changed my clothes and picked up my phone from the bed side table.

"Jessica! you ready?" I asked running down the stairs while using my eyes to search for my black crocs

"Here." Jessica said dropping my crocs in front of me bringing my frantic search to an immediate halt

"Thank you my love." I kissed her forehead and pushed her lightly towards the front door while I went back into the kitchen to pick up the grapes I had previously washed and Jess's snack bag my mum had packed.

I hung the little bag on one of my shoulders and led Jessica out of the door and shut it behind me.

Before I knew what was happening Jessica ran off but I wasn't worried since the park was literally 5 minutes from our house and after 3 years of frequenting there she knew how to get there on her own all she needed me for was supervision.

I ran to the park and Jessica came back to me and started pulling me towards the monkey bars.

"Of course you'll want to go on the monkey bars first."

She turned to me with her hand to her chest and wide eyes;

"Is-is it because I'm black?"

"Girl shut up." I laughed and shoved her towards the bars. So young yet so Jessica.

She was smiling from ear to ear while dangling from the bars and I just stood at the side watching her. The park wasn't particularly full since it was Sunday but it had a decent amount of people. A little boy immediately caught my attention, he was running towards me but it looked like he had no sense of direction in that moment since he was coming straight at me. I grabbed him before he bumped into me and let go once I noticed he was stable.

"Justin what are you doing here alone? And where's your brother?" Of course I knew the little boy, not only was he my sisters friend but he was also always here with his older brother Keith.

"Where's Keith?"

"Home." Justin said as he picked up a handful of sand and chucked it at Jessica who picked up two handfuls to retaliate.

"You're here alone? that can't be safe."

"My sister's coming."

"You have a sister?"

Courtney and Justin looked at each other and exchanged a confused look.

"Yes he has a sister T."

"She only brings me here once in a while and it's always when Courtney brings Jess.

"Makes sense." Made sense because I rarely brought Jess to the park that was Courtney's forte and every time I did bring her I always saw Keith with Justin. I sat down on the bench and pulled out my phone to scroll through Instagram.

"I need to take pictures this Saturday." I mumbled as I scrolled my feed. Oh how tiring the life of an insta baddie with 500 followers.

I looked up and saw Jess and Justin running away from where I was but they were still in my eyesight so I wasn't really bothered but I shouted after them to stay close even though I was aware they knew better. The pack of grapes had been eyeing me this whole time so I opened up the pack and plopped a grape into my mouth then another then another and this continued till they were all gone.

A whole hour had gone by and I was getting ready to leave when I heard someone shouting behind me.

"JUSTIN!"

I turned around to see a really familiar girl behind me shouting at the top of her lungs. She was the basketball captain I think. I just knew she was popular and that was that on that.

"Don't waste your breath he's fine. He's over there."

"Excuse me?"

"I said he's fine. He's over there with my sister."

"Who's your sister?"

"Jessica."

"Jessica has a sister that's not Courtney?"

I laughed and replied; "Best believe that's how I reacted when I found out Justin had a sister."

I stood up and pulled my shorts down. "Anyways, now that you're here I can finally leave."

"JESSICA!"

She turned to me and I motioned for her to come over so she did and Justin followed right behind her.

I turned to face the girl that was towering over me whose name I still didn't know "You might not want to leave your brother at the park for a whole hour all by himself. The world isn't a very nice place to anyone these days."

"Bye Justin." I crouched down to his height and he flipped his hair away from his forehead like he usually did making me chuckle then lean in and gave him a kiss on the forehead.

"Come on lets go J." I held out my hand and Jessica took it.

The walk back home was relaxing, the wind blew my flannel every which way and all my brain could think about was what I was having for dinner cause them grapes weren't enough to keep me full.
