After I lost 50 dollars to Tatianna the day before we planned to meet up at the Starbucks close to the park to start working on our project.

How do you think I felt about losing 50 dollars to her? Sad? Angry maybe? Non of those emotions resonated with what I felt when I had to give up the money. I was simply stunned, she was too good and I simply couldn't compete.

I offered her a ride which she politely declined and said that I should just meet her there which I did.

As I walked into the Starbucks the sweet scent of coffee hit me like a wave. I didn't like coffee but I would never deny that the scent it provided was to die for. I sighted Tati at a booth at the far end of the shop but she hadn't noticed me yet since she'd been way too consumed by what she was reading.

A whole minute had passed since I slid into the booth and she still hadn't looked up at me. Should I have called her attention?

Almost like she read my mind she looked up meeting eyes and smiled.

A smile I was too fond of at this that point even though I'd only known her for a week.

Before we could exchange words a server placed two drinks on the table with napkins and walked away. One caramel latte with whipped cream and one pink drink.

Was that for me?

"Here." She said as if reading my mind again as she slid the drink over to me. For a good 10 seconds I sat there stunned before I finally caught myself and took the drink from her, our hand lightly brushing past each other.

No one ever cared that much.

"You didn't have to." I said still looking down at the drink.

"You're right. But I wanted to."

"Thank you."

"Why do you look so surprised? That's the bare minimum and you're welcome."

I brought the cup to my lips and took a sip and it was nothing short of perfection.

"Can I use one of my questions now?" She asked.

"Go ahead."

"What's your favorite thing to do?"

"Watch a movie and eat snacks. I'm a very basic person."

"Basic is good."

"Only sometimes."

"Yeah. I think we need to hang out more and before you freak out hear me out."

"I wasn't going to freak out."

"Oh so you're saying you do want to hang out with me?" She asked wiggling her eyebrows making me giggle.

"Always."

"I said I think we need to hang out more because Mrs Kate said it'd be best if the poet related to the both of us and as women who also love women we kind of already relate to the poet but I also feel like bonding would help us understand each-other more and know what Sappho means to us individually so we could join heads and write about her and not just copy and paste from the internet. Plagiarism won't make me valedictorian."

"That makes sense but are you sure you don't just want to hang out with me?"

"You caught me. I do want to just hangout with you but I didn't know how to ask since I'm so shy so I used a very important project that's half of my grade which is also due in a month as a cover up." the sarcasm in her tone hadn't gone unnoticed.

"Don't worry, I'll just pretend you're doing it all for English."

"Life saver."

We sat there and talked till our drinks were finished.

Tati ordered another caramel latte and a matcha drink for her two sisters then I walked her home.

The walk home was quiet but not uncomfortable and far from awkward. We spoke from time to time but it was more of a serene stroll, nothing needed to be said. We were undeniably comfortable with each other.

Before we parted she agreed to come over the next day to work on our project which was essentially just us getting close which I was completely fine with.

I didn't fully understand how us getting close would help our project. I understood to an extent but I trusted her judgment. She was the brains in this relationship after all.
