After the movie, Soda drove me home. Two Bit was sitting on the porch watching us closely. I unbuckled and turned to Sodapop.

"Thanks for coming with me. I had fun." I said, a genuine smile on my face.

"Of course Ki. I had fun too." He smiled back at me and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear. I could feel Two-Bit's stars from the porch so I kissed Soda on the cheek and got out of the car. Waving at him as he drove away.

"So... how'd your date go?" Two said, raising his eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes.

"Like I said before, not a date." I walked inside, Two Bit following me.

"Are you sure? Looked like you guys were getting pretty cozy in the car." I blushed but my back was facing Two so he couldn't see.

"What do you mean? We just talked about how much fun we had, we didn't even do anything." I headed to the kitchen to get a water bottle and sat up on the counter.

"Yeah, yeah, and then you kissed him. On the cheek. Sounds pretty cozy to me." He crossed his arms and stood in front of me.

"So? I do that with my friends. Sodapop, Dallas, Steve... ok maybe not steve, I don't know where his face has been. But still, I do that with all my friends."

"I've never seen you do that to anyone but sodapop."

"Well I have." I said, ready for this conversation to end. "I'm gonna head to bed. It's been a long day." I walked to my room and changed out of my clothes into a hoodie and shorts. I laid down in bed and fell asleep to the thought of Sodapop and the way his touch felt when he pushed my hair behind my ear.

I woke up the next morning to the birds outside the window, which was weird, considering how I'd been woken up every other day. It was too peaceful. I got up and threw my hair into a messy ponytail. I headed out to the kitchen and saw a note on the counter:

ᥕᥱᥒ𝗍 𝗍᥆ 𝗍һᥱ ᥴᥙr𝗍іs һ᥆ᥙsᥱ. һᥱᥲძ ᥆ᥒ ᥆᥎ᥱr ᥕһᥱᥒ ᥡ᥆ᥙ ᥕᥲkᥱ ᥙ⍴.
ᥣ᥆᥎ᥱ- 𝗍ᥕ᥆ ᑲі𝗍 :)

I took a quick shower and threw on some overalls with a blue and white striped shirt underneath. I put my hair in French braids and threw my converse on before grabbing an apple off the counter and running out the door.

As I walked, I ate my apple and thought about Sodapop. I felt my cheeks heating up at the thought of him. I decided to think about something else once I saw the Curtis house. I didn't need any questions about why I looked so flushed. They'd never let it go. I threw my apple core in the bushes and walked up the steps to the door.

"Mornin'" I jumped when I heard someone on the porch. I looked over and saw Soda sitting on the railing, smiling that movie star smile.

"Hey" I walked over to him and he moved so I could sit next to him, not oblivious to how close our bodies were. His hand was almost touching mine on the railing and I found mine subconsciously inching closer the longer we sat there.

"Do you want to go somewhere?" I said. I didn't know where to go but I just needed to say something to fill the silence.

"Sure. I actually have somewhere I want to take you if you didn't already have an idea." He held his hand out to me and helped me off the railing.

"I'm good with wherever you want to go." He headed to his truck and I got in the passenger seat. I moved to the middle and fiddled with the radio. I changed the channel until it got to a station that was playing "born to be wild" by Steppenwolf. I was going to move back to the window until I felt Sodas hand on my leg, just above my knee.

I froze, my hand still on the radio dial. He looked over at me and started to move his hand but I finally came to my senses and snapped out of my trance. I grabbed it and placed it back on my leg. He turned and smiled at me and I smiled back.

I could get lost in those eyes. Maybe not right now because he's driving and needs to keep his eyes on the road but maybe one day I could just stare into his eyes forever. The things I would do for this man and his stupid eyes.

I laid my arms on the dashboard and put my chin on top of them, looking at all of the trees as we drove.

We finally stopped driving and parked the car near the entrance to the woods. I know everyone says not to follow a guy into the woods but honestly, Sodapop could brutally murder me and I'd still be swooning over him from heaven. He had that effect on people.

We walked through the woods, hand in hand for 5 minutes until we came to a clearing where a small lake sat, surrounded by flowers and trees. It was beautiful.

"I realize now I probably should have told you to bring other clothes but we don't have to swim if you don't want to." Soda had his hand on the back of his head, rubbing his neck. I grabbed it and held it in my own hand.

"I never pass up a chance to swim Pepsi." A nickname I had come up with last night after we had a heated discussion on why it was better than Coke. "Plus, I wore shorts under this." I unbuckled my overalls and stripped down to my shorts. They were the ones I had slept in but it didn't matter if I was going to swim in them anyways.

I ran and jumped in the lake and when I came back up, Soda was already next to me. I didn't bother to ask where the swim shorts came from but I didn't care. The sun was beating down on me and the cool water felt amazing against my skin. I floated on my back and closed my eyes.

When I opened them I saw Soda staring at me with that damned smile again. I couldn't think of anything else but him and his smile and his eyes that I felt held so much. I wanted to know everything they had seen, and I wanted to be there for everything they will see.

I don't know what gave me confidence like that or what was going through my head as I did it but i knew it was the best thing I had done all day.

I kissed him.
