Chapter 1: Katlyn Byers

I stepped out of the airport in my hometown, Hawkins, Indiana. Nothing seemed to have changed. I walked down the sidewalk to my old house where my brothers and mom were still living. Once I reached the house, i knocked on the door and my mom opened the door.
"Katlyn?" she asked.
"Hey mom." i replied.
She gave me a huge hug and pulled me inside and sat me on the couch.
"I'll go get Jonathan and Will so that they can see you." she said as she walked over to the phone.
She made a phone call to the high school and to the newspaper company that Jonathan was currently working at with his girlfriend Nancy. When she got off the phone, she walked into the kitchen.
"Do you want anything to drink?" She said as she opened the fridge and scanned it for any drinks i could drink.
"I'll take a coffee." I replied as she got a cup out and poured me a cup of coffee.
She handed the coffee to me and started asking me questions. "So why the sudden visit?"
"I missed my family so I chose to take a teeny tiny break from acting." I answered.
"How is it in California?" She asked.
"It's crowded." I replied.
"I bet. It's a big state." She said.
"Yeah." I said.
All of a sudden, the door opened. It was Jonathan.
He looked at me surprised. "When did you get here?"
"This morning." I replied.
He gave me a hug and then sat down next to me as we waited for William to get home. (Instead of calling him Will she calls him by his full name, William.)
Then William walked through the door.
"Katlyn?" He asked as he looked at me.
He then ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug. "Why didn't you tell me you were going to visit?"
"If I told you I was coming, that would ruin the surprise." I said, smiling.
"You should come to Starcourt with Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and El!" He exclaimed.
"Max? Who's Max?" I asked.
"Oh she's a new member of our party!" He said.
"Oh okay. I'll go to Starcourt with you guys." I said.
He smiled and then put his stuff in his room.
"Well I am going to go meet up with my old friends so I'll be home later." I said to mom.
"Okay, have fun kiddo." She said.
"I will." I responded as I left and walked over to Starcourt because Steve had told me that he got a job there.

As I walked to Starcourt, I was looking around at the town. I know it was only a year since I moved, but I still expected it to change in some way. Thankfully, it didn't. I like this town, even with the alternate dimension filled with monsters instead of people. A bunch of people waved at me as I walked. They seemed happy that I finally came home. I was happy too. When I got to Starcourt, I was amazed at how big it was. Definitely bigger than I imagined. I walked inside and there were so many stores. The mall was so colorful. As I looked around, I noticed Steve walk to the back of an ice cream joint called 'Scoops Ahoy'. I walked over to the counter and was greeted by a girl around my age.

"Hi, I'm Katlyn." I said to the girl.
"I'm Robin." She said.
"I'm looking for Steve Harrington." I said.
"Hey Dingus a girl is here for you." She yelled towards the back of the ice cream shop.
Then Steve walked out and saw me. "Byers!"
"Harrington!" I exclaimed.
He ran around the counter. "She's finally back from California!"
"Yup!" I replied.
"I'm surprised that you're friends with someone other than children." Robin said to Steve.
Dustin then came from behind the ice cream shop. "Katlyn! hi! Do you know Russian?"
