A Little Too Stubborn

*Sera's POV*

We were greeted by Frodo and Bilbo at the gates to the party. I couldn't help but blush at the sight of the young Hobbit before me. I felt my heart stopping in my throat as he reached his hand out for me to shake, clearly. His soft, smooth fingers laced around mine, for a few seconds. I could feel my hand turning clammy as our fingers touched. I hoped that he didn't notice!

"Glad you could make it," he said, giving me a small smile.

My pointed ears turned a bright shade of pink.

"Uh . . . I'm glad I could make it, too," I muttered, embarrassed, casting my eyes down. When I looked up, he was still smiling.

"So," he said. "What d'you want to do?"

I was surprised. He was asking me what I wanted to do?

"Uh . . . I dunno," I finished lamely, my ears turning an even deeper shade of pink.

"Do you dance?" he suddenly asked, and I jumped slightly.

"A-A little," I stuttered.

"C'mon," he encouraged, taking both of my hands. He stopped suddenly before calling out to his uncle. "Uncle, I'm taking Sera with me."

I caught sight of Daisy, who was staring at us with suspicion before a smirk crept up her lips before turning away to face Merry and Pippin, who had just come through the door. I gave her a look before she disappeared from sight, probably planning to prank someone, by the looks of it.

A lively tune came on and he put a gentle hand on my waist, sending tingles up my spine.

"So," he said, his eyes never leaving my face. "Why do you think that new girl is here?"

"Oh, Athena?" I said, surprised.

"Yeah, if that's who Gandalf was talking about," he answered, and I twirled out slightly before coming back to him.

"I dunno," I admitted. "Some secret reason. Mum wouldn't say."

"Well, that sucks," he confessed. "I was eager to know -- she seems slightly suspicious."

"Or maybe, she's here on Gandalf's orders," I said stubbornly.

"You don't know why she's here?"

"No. Whatever it is, it must be something important."

"But why, though?" Frodo insisted.

"You'd probably want to ask Athena later," I said, feeling slightly stubborn at the moment.

He laughed, noticing my stubbornness. He had a slight smirk on his face that immediately caused my face to heat up. "A little stubborn tonight, are we?"

I shrugged, trying to ignore the blush. God, he had such a cute smile! "Sorry, things are a bit strange for me at the moment."

He nodded.

After the song ended, we went to sit down by Samwise Gamgee, a good friend of Frodo's, who was also his gardener. He was watching one girl in particular: Rosie Cotton. He turned away just as we sat down.

"Go on, Sam!" said Frodo, who was out of breath. "Ask Rosie for a dance."

Sam went green. "I think that I'll just go and have another ale --" he began, standing up. But Frodo caught him by the shoulders and steered him in a different way, right in Rosie's direction.

"Seriously?" I said, shaking my head.

He just snickered in return, his eyes glimmering with mischief. I tried to ignore how cute he looked. I shook my head before watching my surroundings. But what really caught our attention, was a fiery dragon that came soaring towards us. Instantly, Frodo grabbed my hand and we began to run before pulling me down onto my knees. The crowd started cheering before Frodo helped me up, laughing and shaking his head.
