Amity's pov:
It was strange seeing the weird "cars" as she put them drive down the street while we walked on the sidewalk. The human world was so vibrant and a lot less dangerous than the Isles. There were so many weird looking animals as well, but majestic. As we walked I looked around at each building and person we passed with awe, always asking what they were there for and such.
Luz seemed to enjoy telling me all sorts of things about the human realm, which only peaked my curiosity more about this place.
"Oh! And this is my favorite ice cream shop! C'mon, let's go get some!"
I giggled at her giddiness and followed her into the little store. I jumped slightly when I had heard a little bell ring when the door opened, but thought nothing of it. My eyes widened as I looked around, following Luz to the front desk.
"Hey there! What can I get you two?" The human behind the desk asked, to which my eyes wandered over to the different flavors presented. The names were all weird and different than the ice scream we have back home, but they intrigued me. Luz ordered what was called "rocky road", whatever that was, then turned to me.
"Hmm, you look like a strawberry girl, so we'll go with that for her." I smiled and rolled my eyes, then looked down to her hand. I wish I could have the courage to hold it.
"Coming right up!" The human said before going to make them. Luz and I went to a table nearby and sat as we waited.
"So what do you think of this world so far?"
My ears perked up under the hat before smiling. "It's a lot different than the boiling Isles that's for sure, but I like it. It's quite quaint." She let out a snort.
"Quaint? What are you a philosopher?"
"Pff, no. I'm just- stating the facts here." She let out a chuckle before the human came over to give us our ice cream.
"Here we are! One Rocky road and one strawberry. Enjoy!"
I looked down to my ice cream which was a weird pink color. It looked tasty enough, plus it had a red heart like berry on the top. Tilting my head curiously, I took the berry, popped it in my mouth, and began to chew. As soon as the taste hit my taste buds I perked up in delight. "Mmm! Is this a strawberry?!"
"Hehe, yea, ya like them I take it?" She grinned as I nodded happily before digging into the ice cream. It was just as good! What else can humans make this tasty I wonder?
After our ice cream trip, we set out to go to the nearby park. On the way though, I saw a peculiar building with an alleyway that had a lot up sign above where the door was. It was pink and had what seemed to be part of a leg with a heel for the foot.
"Hey what's that place there??"
"Hm? O-Oh- um- y-you don't wanna know. Let's just say it's a place for... performers." I raised a brow in confusion, but shrugged and asked nothing of it. She didn't seem to be comfortable with it so I didn't push her.
When we got to the park, there were humans and a few dogs running around with balls and flying disc things. It seemed like a cheerful atmosphere here, it was peaceful. Luz led me to a nearby bench to sit and then she pulled out her ear buds.
"I-I always liked coming here to listen to soothing music. It makes it more serene, ya know?" I gave a warm smile. This was just like her to be all sappy and gentle. It was one of the reasons I loved her.
That word again, love.
I never knew what that word really meant until I met Luz. Of course we had our fall outs when we first met, but as we've grown together I got that strange feeling in my chest. A feeling I always got around her. It was warm and inviting and I never wanted that feeling to end. It pains me that I don't know how she feels about me. I know for a fact she thinks of us as best friends, but does she think of us as more than that? It was hard to tell really, but I'll get what I can for now. I don't know what I'd do without her.
