Nathan's pov

It's been more than 10 hours and y/n still hasn't called me to give me an update. I don't expect to see her at school today. I just hope that her mother is fine.

I hold my cell. The "phone" app opened. "Y/n" and her number flashing on the screen. Fuck! Should I call her. Don't. She might be busy. But I'm also worried about her. I'm her teacher, I have to right to know why she'll be missing from my class. You know what? If I see her today, I'll just ask her about it. If I don't, let's hope she calls me later.

It was already lunch time and I hadn't seen y/n. Not even in the lesson I had with her class.

I sat on the teachers' table to eat my lunch, when I heard some whispers. And not the politest ones on top of that.

'Did you hear what happened? With Celia y/l/n,' the chemistry teacher- Ms. Lee, said.

'Oh, yes, yes... It's quite sad actually. I mean, poor y/n, but there are rumours that she was actually drunk, while driving,' the substitute math teacher- Mr. Parker, said. No wonder he's still just a substitute. Always has his nose in other people's business.

I no longer had appetite. Especially since I was sitting next to dogs like them that only need gossip to survive.

'Could be, she-' Ms. Lee jumped, probably, because she felt me behind her. 'Oh, hi!' she exclaimed, smiling as much as she could. I mean, it was no secret that most teachers were drooling over me, but she... she was the worst case. And to think she actually believes she has a chance. She not really... my type. A narcissistic gossip freak that can't mind her own shit.

'Ms. Lee! Mr. Parker!' I got closer. Leaning over the table. Mr. Parker's eyes lit up. He was the most jealous bastard ever. 'How are you feeling?'

'Hmm, good?!' the younger one-Lee, answered. 'What ab-'

I cut her off. 'Yeah. Small talk is over. First of all, this is a school canteen, not the park, so please stop chitchatting and eat. Second of all, aren't you ashamed of yourselves?'

'What do you m-' the older one asked.

'I mean. There's a woman fighting for her life in the hospital right now and all you could do is talk behind her back.' I looked at Parker. 'Look at you, I thought of you as a man. Well, no, not really a man, but at least a guy, not a gossip girl.'

He stood up. Started breathing in my face. Well, it's pathetic really. He is 5 foot 9 and I'm well over 6 foot 2. Hey, I can't blame him. He wants to act grown infront of a female audience.

'What was that?' he tightened his jaw.

I cleared my throat, while putting a hand on my chest. 'Let me make myself clear, mate.' I pointed my index finger at him, touching his chest. 'If I hear you talking behind someone's back, ever again, I'll gut you from the inside out. Got it? I dislike nosy people and snitches.'

He looked like he just shat his pants. I gave him a smile and started walking away, still facing them. 'Bon Appetit!' I said a tad louder.

'Could be that or you just have a thing for your student,' Parker had the nerve to suggest.

'What are you recommending?' I asked, very much annoyed at this point. Now facing him a bit further that before.

'It's very obvious that you two seem to be spending more time together. Giving her rides home?'

'I suggest you shut your mouth before something very stupid comes out of it. I don't think you're dumb enough to propose that I'd ruin my career over a schoolgirl, are you?'

'I was just stating the obvious. You. Are. Playing. Favourites.' He pointed his finger at my chest, touching it.

'Very well. Just be careful with what lies you spread.'

It was true, that I felt a different kind of connection with y/n compared to what I felt towards my other students, but it's nothing, right. I mean, she's just another student. I'm acting protective, because she needs it. I'm doing what I would've done about anyone in this case, right? From now on, I'm going to act as if she just a normal student. I give myself my word.
