"here, hoon." byunseo sat down next to sunghoon at the bar stool before handing him his favorite tiramisu icecream.
however, the taste is not quite like before... unlike when he eats it with irang.
ㅤ
"thanks byunseo but please don't..." sunghoon chuckled nervously. "...don't call me that."
"what? calling you hoon?" byunseo asked in disbelief.
but sunghoon nodded despite her tone. "yeah.."
ㅤ
"but.." irang calls you that all the time. byunseo thought, slightly disappointed but shrugged it off anyway. "whatever..."
she was wearing a hoodie- sunghoon's hoodie to be exact. and the boy was simply wearing a shirt.
ㅤ
"i should grow my hair." sunghoon blankly said and he touched his neck with his warm hands.
"are you cold? it's almost summer though. hmm, maybe you should've put on your scarf then, it was just right on your bed."
ㅤ
...
"you should've put on my scarf then, it was just right on my bed." irang shrugged and continued to walk.
...
ㅤ
sunghoon could see the times he had with irang whenever he's with byunseo— he sees irang, instead of byunseo. perhaps that was the exact reason why he decided to pursue byunseo instead, because with her, he always got a glimpse of what he and irang could've been— lovers.
ㅤ
ㅤ...
ㅤ
"waaAah!!!" sunghoon exclaimed as soon as the sweet dessert entered his mouth. "tiramisuUUu~" he cooed quite loudly, which resulted to irang smacking him loudly.
ㅤ
"stop being so loud!" irang whispered-yelled as she looked around apologetically at the disturbed customers.
silence soon swallowed the whole scene as only the background music played along with the soft static noise of people chattering around the spacious café.
"you know," sunghoon took a bite of his icecream- the tub already almost half-empty. "winter break is ending." sunghoon puckered his lips.
ㅤ
"i think we spent too much time playing tekken, we didn't even get to go out or hang out in other places." he continued while he blankly stared off to the pavement.
"well," irang shrugged. "we can still do those once we're back in school." she said, looking at sunghoon's side profile, completely unfazed.
"it's not that irang, we're not juniors anymore." sunghoon sighed and put his spoon down. "after this year, we'll go off to college..."
"will we still be able to do these kinds of things?" sunghoon looked at irang with an unusual concern emitting from his dark brown orbs.
ㅤ
despite the oddness, irang smiled reassuringly. "i'm sure we'll find a way."
"i mean- we found a way for all these years we've been friends. what more could adulting possibly offer?" irang lightly shrugged it off, but that didn't erase sunghoon's worries.
"what if you find someone to like?" sunghoon questioned out of the blue. time seemed to stop, and everyone seemed to stop doing everything. it's like they were both in a trance only they entered.
ㅤ
the atmosphere suddenly became nostalgic and euphoric. the light was suddenly soft and everything was like a hazy dream, even the fact that they were both staring at each other completely without breaking contact.
"after college, what if you get engaged? or even have a family?" they were putting their noses to the future, a topic clearly untouched despite the years they spent together.
ㅤ
"why are you suddenly being so sentimental..?" irang mumbled, bothered and uncomfortable of the way sunghoon was asking the questions that have never been on her mind- yet is now bothering her.and that's when they knew; that day at the café wasn't just like any other day.
ㅤ
"will we still be able to eat icecream weekly?""will we still play ps5 at your house?"
"will we still be able to visit each other's houses?"
"will we still be able to greet the new years together?"
"will we still be able to be best friends forever?"
ㅤ
...
ㅤ
even remembering her brings an unknown pain to sunghoon. if only he knew things ended the way he feared it to be, then he would've done everything with irang to the time given to them by fate.
ㅤ
ㅤ
ㅤ
"i miss you, irang.."
