irang sat by the same bench both she and sunghoon used to sit at whenever they would tell their secrets. tonight, the moon glimmered solemnly at the dark sky, just like her— who looked like a lone star losing its glow.
"hey moon." irang smiles.
"i guess it's just me and you now?" she bitterly chuckled, knowing that tradition of secrets are no more, and no one else can ever comfort her unlike her old bestfriend whom she misses very much. "it's my fault anyway, i was stupid and immature."

she can still imagine the feeling of hot chocolate mug in her hands, the same hot chocolate that is slightly too sweet for her liking. still, she would undoubtedly drink it for sunghoon, who is the designated barista at his house.
"hoon and i are not close anymore. so, can i tell you a secret instead?" she asked the moon, and just as if it was answering, it unveiled itself from the dark clouds surrounding it.

irang bitterly chuckled and sighed heavily. "i am in love with my boy bestfriend of 14 years, and it took me too long to realize that. because i was so scared that liking him romantically is going to ruin my friendship with him, i dated a boy so i could distract my feelings... but i just ended up hurting him. i'm still sorry for that."
"i was such a bitch for blaming it on heeseung when truly, i was the one in the wrong."

"now, i'm alone, because i was too greedy. i want sunghoon's love and attention, but at the same time i want to keep our friendship. now, he's happy with someone else... and i'm just here, telling a secret that i wish he would hear." irang bit her lips as she played with the hem of her shirt.
she does want sunghoon to hear her out for one last time, be it that she'll get rejected. their frienship is already torn anyway.

but just so suddenly, a girl's voice other than irang— it echoed through the silent night.

"hey moon, can i tell you a secret too?" it was byunseo, with crescent shaped eyes and a butter smile displayed upon her beautiful face.
byunseo faced the moon, and the solemn glow of it radiated to her face. "i'm so in love with my boyfriend, he's the best one i'd ever have. but i know he loves his girl bestfriend right from the start. and who i was to rid him of his happiness?"

"i was the happiest girl when he said he liked me, i'm sure he'll be far more happy to be liked back with the girl he loves too." byunseo couldn't conceal it any further, with her eyebrows furrowed, she puckered her lips in order to hide the bottled feelings she hid from her shattering heart.
"byunseo.." irang stammered, in great disbelief to know that sunghoon's girlfriend heard her confession to the boy himself. and... what was she talking about him being far more happy if he got liked back by the girl he loves?

byunseo slowly marched to the bench, and sat beside irang. still, she avoided irang's gaze and instead, stared at the dark skies.
"i broke up with sunghoon earlier. because i want the both of them to be happier...."

"because they're the only people meant to be for each other."
ㅤ
byunseo turned to look at irang, teary eyed as she wiped her crystalline tears away. "i'm sorry for being insecure to you irang... i'm sorry for hindering whatever you have with sunghoon."
"but... irang, i want you to get yourself together. because sunghoon will move to another town with his family tomorrow morning, and i'm afraid they won't be coming back."
