Wei Ying felt a warm cloth wipe his eyes and then around his forehead. This same warm cloth was then rinsed out in a basin, from what he could hear. There was a minimum of splashing because Lan Zhan was an expert at this job.

But then again, Lan Zhan was an expert at everything he did.

The warmth was back, wiping around his nose and then his mouth, and Wei Ying could not prevent the smile that was tugging on his lips. The warm cloth paused, before continuing on its journey past his cheeks and onto his neck.

Wei Ying opened his eyes then and found Lan Zhan concentrating on what he was doing.

"Do you know...you look extremely hot when you're focused?" Wei Ying whispered, his voice coming out hoarse. He cleared his throat and closed his eyes again, content to just lie still for a while longer. "How long was I out this time?"

"Just over seventeen hours now." Lan Zhan answered, forcing himself to be calm about that.

"It's getting longer...isn't it?" Wei Ying asked.

There was a note of resignation in his voice.

"Mn. But Wei Ying had a visitor while he was asleep." Lan Zhan said, mysteriously.

"Who?" Silver eyes snapped open, eager to hear something good.

"Grandmother." Lan Zhan told him.

"Grandmother? She's here?" Wei Ying sat up quickly.

"I sent Hui Gai to ask her to visit with Wei Ying...if she can cure you..." Lan Zhan wasn't looking at him.

Wei Ying looked at him, really looked at him then.

There was a tightness around his eyes which wasn't there before, and worry lurked like a spectre deep within those golden eyes. Lan Zhan looked paler, if that was possible.

"My love...have you eaten?" Wei Ying asked, wriggling closer to him.

He made Lan Zhan put the rag down and hugged him warmly instead, resting his head against the top of Lan Zhan’s shoulder. Strong arms came around him then, holding Wei Ying so much closer.

"You haven't answered my question, Lan Zhan..." Wei Ying persisted.

"Wasn't hungry. Don't want to eat without Wei Ying." He sounded petulant.

Wei Ying smiled softly, but he felt saddened by this admission.

"I'm hungry enough for the both of us...but I want you to promise me something." He said softly, but it was difficult to speak with the huge lump in his throat.

"Anything." Lan Zhan replied, immediately.

"I love that about you. How you're always so sure. I love you...so much. More than I ever thought I could love anyone..." Wei Ying pushed back the tears.

Baring his heart made him so emotional...but at least the vulnerability had gone. He was sure that he could tell Lan Zhan absolutely anything, and Lan Zhan would take it with the utmost sincerity.

Lan Zhan lifted his chin with a single finger and kissed him gently. This kiss was sweeter because it came after so long, being apart. And it meant so much more than just a meeting of lips, however eagerly.

Wei Ying pressed himself against Lan Zhan’s hard body, held there with two warm, big palms as Lan Zhan expressed himself as best as he could, like this without words. Everything he felt was here, the fear of losing Wei Ying, coupled with his gratefulness that Wei Ying was here still in his arms.

Love in all its abundance swirled around them like a cape of infinite beauty. Their souls hummed in pleasure at this connection, a need to be together. Something so simple yet the possibility of which was in jeopardy. This recognition that each was the other half of themselves...it was special, unique to them.
