"Dark equals Light,
Eternal chase goes on,
Supremacy a fight,
Yet one cannot exist
Without the other.Soul Bond if complete,
Entices Demon hoard.
Two to remain to ward,
Each their own protection
Lest they perish into dark."One of the Celestial Warriors stepped forward and recited the Soul-Bond Prophecy.
Wei Ying had memorised it long ago...but when they had to venture into the Nether World, he had assumed it was finished with...because there had been lots of demons to deal with there.
But apparently, the Universe wasn't done giving them challenges yet.
"You think it's connected with wherever Hui Gai is?" Wei Ying asked, unable to hide his smile as Lan Zhan edged closer and wrapped his arm around his waist.
His own fingers reached over to clasp Lan Zhan’s free hand.
"I don't see anyone else here who's Soul bonded...do you?" Baoshan Sanren questioned cheekily, a sharp twinkle in her eyes.
Wei Ying was reminded of the fact that, while she was his grandmother who loved him, she didn't suffer fools, even if it was family...
"Where is Hui Gai, anyway? And how come you two are like this?" Wei Ying crossed his fingers and showed his grandmother. "Before...you barely tolerated him and now you're suddenly pally pally? What gives, gramps?"
She had the good grace to blush ever so gently, but Wei Ying saw it and pounced.
"Admit it, Grandmother, you like him now! I really can't believe it...I'm going to have to see it in person...and even then...I'll be having an out-of-body experience!" He crowed, clearly happy about this new development. "So..." He had another thought to add the ones already racing in his head. "You can talk to him in there, can't you???" Wei Ying accused her loudly, the mischievous glint in his silver eyes shining with astonished glee as he worked it out. He was tapping the side of his own head.
This had gone from bad to worse and Baoshan Sanren hadn't been expecting her grandson to not only connect the dots but understand even more.
This whole situation would have been funny if not for the urgency and circumstances of this meeting.
"Also...I have another question..." Wei Ying glanced around, more confusion on his beautiful face. "How is it that I'm hearing lots of pigs...baby pigs?" He had heart eyes.
"Regardless..." the Celestial Immortal strove to stay calm and not clip him around his head. "We should not dally any longer." The piglets however cute they were, were not important right now.
"You're absolutely right, and this isn't even close to being over!" Wei Ying closed his eyes and searched for Hui Gai, his best friend.
************
"WHO ARE YOU?"
The words shot out of the fat Demon so loudly that they rang inside his head. Hui Gai was sending message after message outwards to the Celestial Immortal, really hoping she hadn't been joking about their mind connection and it was real, because he had a feeling he was going to need her help soon...like now...
Heian Wangzi, Prince of Darkness, grew even bigger.
There was a sound coming from outside, and it was getting louder and louder, but Hui Gai had no time to wonder what it was because suddenly his arm was being yanked and he was thrust outside, thrown to the ground in disgust.
And then he discovered what that noise was...or rather, who.
Hundreds and thousands of demons were rushing towards them, a sea of different colours but mostly black, coming up from the bottom of the mountain in all the directions. The previously grey scenery was now a dangerous deep shade of movement and Hui Gai was so startled by the sudden change, that for a few seconds he didn't move.
"WHO PUT YOU UP TO THIS? WAS IT THOSE GREASY CULTIVATORS?" The heavy set Demon shouted at him, incensed and enraged to have been thwarted now, when he had assumed that what he had been waiting for, for so long was finally within his reach. Spittle flew from his lips as he shouted.
"YET AGAIN, WE HAVE BEEN BETRAYED BY THOSE LYING NO-GOOD UNDERHANDED CULTIVATORS, WHO FOREVER DECIDE IN THEIR RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE THAT WE ARE THE ONES WHO REQUIRE PUNISHMENT..." Heian Wangzi continued, addressing the gathering crowds of demons.
"WHY DO WE HAVE TO TAKE THEIR "JUSTICE"? WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE REPRESSED? NO LONGER, I SAY! LET US SCOUR THE NETHER WORLD FOR THE DEMON KING AND SHOW HIM WHO WE ARE! AND AFTER THAT, AFTER WE HAVE TORN HIM LIMB FROM LIMB, THEN MY FRIENDS, THEN WE WILL BREAK OUT AND WREAK HAVOC ON THE OUTSIDE WORLD. WE WILL SHOW THOSE PUNY HUMANS THE MIGHT OF US, THE MIGHT OF THE DEMONS THEY HAVE TRIED TO OPPRESS!" Heian Wangzi thrust his fist into the air and received a deafening ovation.
The cheers loud and wide were prolonged, and every time Heian Wangzi pumped the air, waves of the loud cries rocked the place they were standing in, making the ground tremble under Hui Gai's feet.
He liked to think he had led a quiet life until now.
But, his reign as the King of the Nether World was in jeopardy.
Until now, he had concentrated on visiting one part at a time of this vast place and spending much needed days and weeks there, learning about the people who lived there. Their cultures, their ways and customs, and then he was slowly bringing about change.
More orphans had a place to call home now, and there were very few people who went hungry by the time the suns set every evening.
A better way of life whilst keeping their core values the same.
So far he had visited around ten such places since the death of Yao Wang, and he liked to think that people were beginning to see what he was really trying to do.
Support had been slow to start, but he had no doubts about their loyalty, the ones he had helped already.
So he dusted himself off and stood up, releasing the glamour that had hidden his true form.
"No need to scour...I am right here." Hui Gai said to the shocked and appalled face of Heian Wangzi. "The Demon King, Diyu WangZi at your service." And he bowed.
