"So please if you see this man call the number on the screen, do not engage as he is incredibly dangerous, thank you" Madelyn could barely hear while she stared at the picture of the man."Lincoln what the hell did you do?" That was the only thought that crossed her mind
"They didn't mention what he did" Reid stated
"Must be bad if they don't want to alert the public" Emily said looking at Reid
"Of course it is, it's a message from the ATCU" Morgan stated as if it was obvious.
The Advanced Threat Control Unit (ATCU), was an international organization that had 62 countries under its protection. No one knew what type of threat they handled as they stop some terrorist attacks and issues like that but most of their cases are under the radar. Probably why most FBI agents goal is to become and agent there. Madelyn wasn't a fan of the ATCU, especially because of the rumors.
"Madds, are you okay?" Reid looked at her with concern.
"Yeah, don't worry Spence" she nodded slightly and went back to her paperwork while everyone looked at each other and went back to work.
Suddenly Madelyn's phone started to ring and she jumped and grabbed the phone quickly without even getting a chance to look at the number.
"Moon," she said as a reflex
"Maddie?" The voice behind was trembling and if he wasn't in her mind at the moment she wouldn't have realized it was him.
Madelyn almost ran to the hall, where she was alone, and to say the others noticed was an understatement.
"Lincoln, what happened? Why is the ATCU after you?" Madelyn demanded worriedly
"Afterlife, it's gone, they destroyed it, everyone is either dead or running" Lincoln's voice broke one more, and suddenly Madelyn knew exactly why he was on the news. They now, it's only time until everyone knows.
"What am I gonna do? My face is in every news Chanel in the nation" Lincoln continued
"Can you go to a friend's house?" Madelyn questioned
"No no, I-I come from- th-that didn't work" Madelyn's heart broke once more listening to Lincoln, how he could not finish a sentence because he would start crying and probably wouldn't stop.
"Are you in Quantico?"
"Yeah, yeah" finally a good answer
"Okay, I'll send an address to you, go there, there are some keys inside one of the lamps at the entrance" she ended the call and sent the address.
She came back and walked past the desks and came into hotch's office as he looked up.
"I have to leave, it's umm a personal issue"
Madelyn wasn't lying technically but she still felt like a lie as soon as the words left her mouth. She hated lying she always had, only to people she cared about, though if she didn't she could lie her head off without a second thought. But hotch had become family in the past years and having to lie to him, in such an important time, pained her.
"Of course, tell Morgan to finish your paperwork" Hotch looked at her with his plain face as always but there was a hint of worry, deep worry, one that she had never seen in him before. But, in Hotch's perspective, he just looked at his daughter, her broken expression, her desperation. It also helped she hadn't asked for a personal day since she arrived at the BAU, not even taken her vacations.
Madelyn slightly smiled and nodded before walking away. She went straight to her desk and the four agents looked at her without saying anything, even Hotch was looking at her through his window. She was so deep into her thoughts that she didn't even notice the eyes on her. Madelyn quickly grabbed her things and then looked at Morgan on the desk in front of her.
"Can you finish my report?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it," Morgan said slowly, trying to read her body language
Madelyn just nodded and walked out of the room and Reid followed. She opened the glass door and walked through. Then she felt a hand on her arm and turned around.
"Are you okay madds?" Reid said calmly without removing his hand from her.
"Yeah, I just-I just really have to go," Madelyn said calmly, or as calmly as she could
"Okay" with that Reid let go of her arm.
Madelyn got into the elevator and as soon as the doors closed a tear dropped from her eye.
