"Diego?" I called, seeing the little pup come around the tree and let out a small bark. "You've grown a lot in three months, little one. I have food for you," I smiled holding up a slice of watermelon.

I crossed my legs and sat the delicious fruit between my folded legs so he can enjoy his snack while I also enjoy my fruit. "It's great, right?" I hummed, taking another bite.

He finished before me, so I gave him the rest of mine. "We will get some protein in that belly of yours soon, Diego," I smiled. "As much as I hate to watch animals die but you sweetie pie needs to eat to stay healthy. I guess apart of life, right?" I asked him, only for him to wag his tail and lick my calf from the watermelon juices.

"Ready for our walk?" I asked, and he immediately got up and paced around in front of me. "I think you are a blessing, Diego. What if you're my guardian angel? I started reading another book about them. I rescued you and you protect me. You would protect me, right?" I asked him as we walked by a breakfast restaurant.

Before I went inside the restaurant, I turned to Diego. "Can you sit here and wait for me?" I asked him, watching him sit and stare at me. "Such a good boy," I coo, patting his head. I walked inside and went to the small bar.

"Hi, do you have any chicken scraps?" I asked, watching the waitress look at me then sigh. "No, we don't have any chicken scraps. And no, I am not feeding you free food," she automatically snapped.

"I don't want any food. I want to feed my friend out there," I smiled. She looked outside and saw Diego sitting outside like a good boy. "You're going to feed your pet before yourself?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

I tilted my head and nodded it. "I've eaten already, but thank you," I said then walked outside. Diego looked up at me with a hopeful look. "I'm sorry, Diego. They wouldn't give me any," I said, hearing him whine.

"Hey, it's okay. We'll find something for you," I chirped, scratching behind his ear. We began our walk to another restaurant, but they also declined us. After trying all the restaurants in town, I looked to Diego and sat on the pavement.

"I'm sorry, little one. No one has the food," I pout, feeling tears weld up. He licked my hand and nudged me with his nose. His small whines made me look at him and smile. "It's okay, friend. We'll find something. I promise," I coo.

His ears perked up as some men approached us. He let out a growl, making me gasp and wrap my arms around him. "I'm sorry, he's very protective of me," I smiled nervously. "It's alright, little lady. I heard you was looking for food. We have some in our car," he said, making me smile and quickly stand up.

Diego tugged at my bottoms, making me look at him. "Hold on, Diego. These nice men are going to get you some food," I giggled. He let out a whine and began barking at the men. "Diego?" I called, but he continued to bark and show his sharp teeth at him.

"I'm sorry," I rushed to apologize. My body froze as someone wrapped their arms around my waist. Shivers ran down my spine, but warmth also surrounded my body. "I believe she is alright on the food. I'll get it for her," a man said, making me turn my head and see a very gorgeous man.

"Wow, thank you!" I smiled, watching him glance to me with a nonchalant look. "Yeah, yeah. You're a very naive woman," he said as Diego growled at him. "Watch it, mut," the handsome man snapped.

I removed myself from him and pat Diego's head. "I'm sorry, he's very protective of me," I smiled then calmed him down. "Come on, so you can feed your... 'friend'," he said. I looked at Diego then smiled. "I told you, Diego. Come on," I giggled.

The men who were first to offer some food let out a shout. "Zagan, she was ours!" One of them shout. "She's mine now. Fuck off," he snapped, making me blush at the vulgar words. "You're Zagan? And what do they mean I'm theirs?" I asked, hearing him grumble.

"Yes, I am Zagan. Tell me your name," he demanded. "Malak," I responded. "Sounds like its Hebrew," he commented. "It is. I've read many books. You can ask Diego," I smiled removing from his hold to lift up my friend.

Diego's tail hit my leg repeatedly, but I know he means no harm. He's happy. "Right, let's go in here. We've been walking for a long time," he said. Before he could go in, I stopped him by blocking the way. "This was the first place to visit. They do not give food away," I rushed.

He easily lifted me up and moved me to the side. "I get what I want, princess. Now come on," he said, opening the door. "Diego, can you sit like earlier?" I coo, scratching behind his ear. He did as told, making me smile and pat his head.

We walked inside, making me look around since the first time I went straight to the bar. "Hello," I greeted again with a wide smile. The same bar tender looked at me then sucked her teeth. "I told you we don't-" she started but Zagan cleared his throat.

"I'm buying the food. Now find some chicken so she can feed her damn dog," he demanded then slapped his hand on the counter. My eyes widened at his rude manner. "I'm sorry, he's just a little upset. Can we have the chicken scraps, please?" I nervously laughed.

She squinted her eyes then walked away and brought a covered plate. I looked back to Diego only to see him not there. "Diego?" I called then rushed outside. "Diego?" I called again. A soft bark made me look around and see someone pulling him away to a truck.

"Excuse me!" I shout, rushing to them. "That's my friend. Can I have him back, please?" I asked, only for them to shove him in there. "That's going to cost you, little lady," the man smirked. "I don't have money. Can you just give him back? He's all I have," I pout.

Diego tried to say something, but they had some type of guard around his mouth. "Please?" I begged. "How about you give me a hug and I'll let you have 'Diego' back," he smiled while licking his lips.

"Deal!" I agreed then wrapped my arms around his broad shoulders. He let out a hum and held me a little tighter then trailed his hands down my back. "Uh, can I have my friend back?" I mumbled, trying to move back but he held me a little longer.

"You're so naive, Malak. Give her the damn dog back before I shove my feet so far up your ass you will have toes for teeth!" Zagan threatened. The man let me go then folded his arms. "I'm sorry, he's a little upset. Diego," I gasped, taking the restrictions off of him.

"People are very upset here, Diego. Maybe we shouldn't come here again," I suggested, feeling like a complete failure. Zagan and the stranger began arguing but all I wanted was chicken for Diego.

I saw him holding the food, allowing me to tap his shoulder, pausing their feud. "Can I have the chicken? And can you two just hug it out and not be so upset?" I asked. Zagan gave me the food but went back to arguing with the stranger.

I let out a sigh and looked to my friend. "I guess this is a result of keeping you healthy, friend. Ready to go?" I asked, feeding him a couple of warm chicken strips. The sun was beginning to set so we walked to the nearest forest to rest for the night.

I checked his plate and saw he ate all of his food. "You ate it all, Diego. You full?" I asked, finding a large tree to rest under. He leaned against me and shown me his belly. I gave it a good scratch then said my goodnight to him and everything around me.

Today was very hectic.
