"Do I look okay!?" Meadow asked in a panic as she turned to the side to look at her reflection in the mirror. Heidi rolled her eyes with a huff as she threw herself back onto Meadow's bed.
"God, yes! Stop your worrying!" She insisted as she threw her arms up in the air. Meadow spun round to see Heidi flat on her bed in frustration of her repeating questions. She stood dressed in a light blue denim button up skirt with a green leaf pattern halter top that was exposing her shoulders. She wore her white flat converse to go with it. Her hair was tied up in a high bun while her face was painted with light natural make-up, a black tattooed choker sat round her neck with a small sunflower dangling from it.
"I don't wanna look too dressed up.." Meadow mumbled as she picked at her nails nervously. Heidi pushed herself up with her elbows to glance back at her with a sigh before getting to her feet to hand over her tote bag.
"You look beautiful! Keegan's gunna love it now go and have fun my baby gay!" She insisted as Meadow slid her bag straps onto her shoulder as Heidi saw her to the door. They embraced for a moment before Heidi watched her disappear down the street before closing the door behind her.
Keegan let out a soft sigh as she leaned against the brick wall. She glanced at her phone screen for a moment before suddenly being distracted by the sight of a black car with black tinted out windows parked across the street from her. She glared at it for a moment with confusion before suddenly having her focus towards Meadow walking towards her. Her mouth suddenly dropped open as Meadow stood in front of her, almost like she couldn't find any words for how beautiful she looked.
"Wow.." The world's fell out her mouth as she gazed at her. She couldn't stop looking her up and down as Meadow's cheeks blushed a light pink, nervously playing with the ends of her hair. Meadow looked up at Keegan as she stood in front of her. She was dressed in torn black skinny jeans, grey converse with a black button up shirt with white snakes printed on it. Her hair was tied back in her usual style to expose her shaved sides. Meadow placed her hand to her chest, her heart was ready to burst from her chest. She hadn't felt it beat this fast since her first date with Declan all those years ago when they first became seniors. She took a deep breath for a moment to try and calm herself down, her cheeks flushed from how much she was blushing.
"W..We should grab our table.." Meadow stuttered with a slight smile as Keegan nodded back at her before following her inside the restaurant. Meadow led the way to a two seater table next to the window. They sat facing each other, Keegan couldn't take her eyes off of her as Meadow's eyes danced across the menu. Meadow's eyes glanced up from the menu as her eyes suddenly met with Keegan's. She could feel her cheeks warm up as she blushed, swiftly lifting the menu to cover her face. Keegan let out a quiet chuckle as she looked over at her before turning her focus towards the waitress walking towards them.
"What can I get you lovely ladies?" She asked with a welcoming smile as she pulled her notebook and pen from the front pocket of her apron. Keegan turned her head to take a quick glance across the menu as Meadow slowly lowered the menu to reveal her face. The waitress waited patiently for them to decide as Keegan smiled softly, turning her focus towards her.
"I'll have the tofu salad with a diet coke please." She announced as she closed the menu before handing it over to the waitress. She quickly wrote it down in her notebook before shifting her focus to Meadow with a smile.
"What about you honey?" She asked, Meadow could barely focus on what she wanted to eat or even if she wanted to eat. She could feel her stomach twisting and turning from her nervous she was to be sitting at a table opposite Keegan in such a public environment.
"I'll..just have the same.." She stuttered, lightly hitting her forehead with the menu as she sighed softly. She handed the menu over to the waitress as she wrote down their orders.
"Alright, I'll bring your drinks over shortly!" She smiled before walking away from the table. Keegan turned to look at the embarrassed expression on her face. A soft chuckle escaped her lips as she reached over to pull Meadow's hand away from her face. Meadow glanced back at her, a gentle smile on Keegan's face that made her feel less nervous.
"There's no need to be nervous, I'm not gunna bite." Keegan joked to try and make her feel more comfortable. Meadow chuckled softly as Keegan rested her hand ontop of hers as she lay her hand flat on the table. She turned her hand over to hold her hand in hers. It was warm. It gave her the same feeling as the day at the park.
"Meadow?" A familiar voice called out. Meadow felt her heart suddenly sink as she turned to see Brooke heading towards her. Meadow swiftly pulled her hand from Keegan's before sliding it under the table to rest it on her thigh.
"B..Brooke? What are you doing her?" Meadow's voice cracked as she put on a brave face as Brooke stood in front of her with a smile.
"I have a date today, he's just running a little late." She replied with a smile as she waved her hand in the air for a moment.
"W..Well, good luck." Meadow stuttered hoping she'd leave. Brooke turned her focus over to Keegan who was leaning back in her seat with her arms folded comfortably across her chest. Brooke looked her up and down for a moment before putting on a smile.
"Is this a friend of yours?" Brooke asked, unable to take her eyes off of her Keegan. Meadow swallowed for a moment before answering as she looked over at Keegan. It was stuck in her throat. The words I'm on a date with her were stuck.
"Y..Yeah, we're just catching up." Meadow lied as Brooke turned to look back over at Meadow with a smile.
"Well, it was nice to see you. I hope I see you back at work soon." Brooke added before throwing her hand in the air to wave goodbye as she walked away. Meadow weakly waved back before covering her face with her hands, holding back the tears that were ready to spill out onto the table. Her eyes were already glossed over as she looked over at the unfazed look on Keegan's face.
"I-" She stuttered as Keegan dived to her feet, reaching over to pull her hands away. She shook her head at her, signaling that she didn't need to apologise. She brushed her thumb gently under her eye to wipe away a stray tear that was trying to escape.
"It's okay, you'll be ready in your own time." Keegan whispered as Meadow slowly nodded back at her. Keegan slowly lowered back into her seat as the waitress began to approach the table carrying a tray with two cold glasses of coke sitting on it. Keegan shifted her focus out the window to glare at the black car that was still parked perfectly across the street from them. Meadow tilted her head slightly as she glanced at the stern look on her face.
"Everything okay?" She asked as Keegan suddenly snapped back to reality. She turned her head to look at Meadow siting across from her, smiling softly at her as she leaned in to sip her coke through the straw.
"Everything is perfect, bambi." She replied with a smile as Meadow smiled back at her, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
