Unlikely Conditions

Chapter 28

Meadow walked hand in hand down the street with Keegan. Her hand already warm from Keegan's touch, she caught small glimpses of Keegan checking the area as they walked hand in hand. Meadow stopped in her tracks suddenly as she squinted at the sight of a car outside a restaurant. Keegan stopped beside her, turning to glance at her.

"What's wrong?" She queried as Meadow then rolled her eyes at the sight of the car, a heavy sigh escaping her lips.

"That's my ex boyfriend's car.." She sighed as she rubbed her temple before looking back up in horror as she spotted Nicole leaving the restaurant followed by Declan. She watched for a moment before watching in horror as they kissed passionately. Keegan glanced at the angered look on Meadow's face as she moved to cover her view of the couple, she placed her hand on her waist as she gently turned her away before continuing to walk down the street.

"Come on, you're better than they are." She reassured her with a smile as Meadow looked back one last time with a sigh before turning her focus back towards Keegan.

She turned the lock in the front door with a heavy sigh before pushing out open to be met with silence. There was no energetic welcoming from Heidi. She stepped inside as Keegan followed behind her, closing the door behind her as Meadow stopped in her tracks to gaze round the house. Keegan gently took the keys from her hand, placing them on the counter before wrapping her arms round her from behind. Meadow exhaled through her nose as she leaned into her for comfort. She then turned round to face her with a warm smile, Keegan smiled back without a second thought. She cupped her face gently in her hands before leaning in for a quick kiss. Meadow took her hand in hers, it was warm. She led her towards her bedroom as Keegan closed the door behind them. Meadow let out a sigh of relief as she flopped onto her bed, Keegan chuckled happily as she sat beside her before slowly laying back on the bed. Meadow turned her head to the side to look at Keegan, Keegan turned her head in return. Meadow could feel her heart race from the soft smile on Keegan's face as she looked back at her. Meadow reached her hand out to lightly caress her cheek, Keegan took her hand before softly kissing the back of her hand in a romantic gesture. This only made Meadow's cheeks blush brighter, she couldn't believe Keegan was officially her girlfriend. She rolled over onto her side to get a closer look at her, she still had some remaining face paint on her cheek, she gently rubbed it off with her thumb. Keegan simply chuckled at her gesture before pulling her in tightly against her. Meadow exhaled softly as she locked her arms around her, she was like a warm blanket as she buried her face into her chest. They both lay there in a comfortable silence keeping each other warm, Meadow had already completely forgotten about seeing her ex boyfriend kissing her now ex best friend. It's almost like all her thoughts go away the second she's in Keegan's arms. Their silence was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the lock in the front door. Meadow dived out of Keegan's arms without a second thought as she darted out her room to be met by Heidi stumbling into the house still dressed in her now broken and blood soaked halloween costume. She couldn't see her face as her head fell forward to stare at the floor, her high heels dangling in her head as her long black hair fell over her face. Keegan followed behind Meadow as she stood behind her for comfort.

"Heidi! You must be freezing!" Meadow said in a panic as Keegan darted back into Meadow's bedroom to grab the blanket on her bed. She hurried back out to drape it gently round Heidi's shoulders. Heidi leaned against Meadow as Meadow gently led her towards the sofa, taking her shoes from her hand as she sat down with a heavy sigh. Meadow knelt down in front of her, watching her lift her head to reveal strands of hair stuck to her face, tear stains down her cheeks, poorly washed off green face paint, smudged make up. Meadow gently pulled the strands of hair from her face as Keegan sat beside her for comfort.

"It's my fault.." Heidi sniffled as she gently took Meadow's hand in hers. Keegan scooted closer to adjust the blanket draped round her shoulders, plastering a weak smile on her face.
