After the disaster of a breakup that was long over do, we head inside.

"You okay Cass?" I shrug my shoulders. I mean what can I really do or say? "It's better to find out now, than later."

"I understand, but it still gotta hurt nonetheless." That's what I love about Lil she doesn't throw it in my face, when she had this feeling, he was no good. Her arm wraps around my shoulder and gives it a squeeze. "If you asked me that three months ago, I would have been devastated, but since we hardly spoke since then... not so much." I actually feel relieved now, because I know I will just be a burden, but I will not let Lily know that is how I feel.

"See, what did I tell ya...bad ass chick." I can't help but laugh. She just knows what to say to always brighten up my day no matter what. "I gotta go to the bathroom. You want to wait by my locker or go with me?"

"I'll be fine by myself Lil."

"Okay, I'll be right back."

"I'll be right here." She squeezes my hand and then I hear her footsteps fade away. I lean up against the locker and take a deep breath. "You can do this Cass." I whisper to myself, because my nerves feel like I am hanging on a tightrope.

"You're blocking my locker." I cringe because I know that voice...Victoria. The one person that I do not get along with. I don't know what her problem is with me, but I try to stay away from her as much as possible.

"Sorry." I get my cane out and try to move passed her and she just laughs. "Look at the freak." I freeze on the spot. "Not cool Vicki." Another voice says, and I recognize it as Zac her boyfriend. I don't know what he sees in her. "Oh, come on Zac. Tell me she's not a freak. She doesn't belong here. She needs to go to one of those special schools."

I feel myself shake and on the verge of tears. "That's it Vic! I'm out of here. Call me when you become a decent human being." I try to walk away, but she grabs my arm. Where is Lily? "I'm not done with you yet freak."

"Let go of me." I stumble back and hit a brick wall. Okay well it feels like a brick wall. But my hands land on a very solid chest. Holy Hannah. "Enough Victoria!" The deep voice booms out and I feel shivers go down my spine.

"Oh, hey Nate."

So, this is Nate. Well, I'll be... I wish I could see his face. I shake the thought from my head.

"Come on Nate. She's a freak, she can't see. Watch." I feel her hand wave in front of my face, and I grab her wrist. "I may be blind, but I can feel your movements dumb ass." God what has gotten into me? I have cussed more recently than I ever have. I hear a deep chuckle and I realize I still have one of my hands on his chest. I feel my cheeks heat up as I try to remove my hand, but I feel he holds mine in place.

"I think we are done here Victoria." I hear her scoff and I can just picture the ugly expression on her face. I can't help but giggle at that. "This isn't over. I will make your life a living hell Cassie Logan."

"I already survived hell, so nothing you do can make it worse." I hear footsteps and take a deep breath once I know she is gone. "Are you okay?" His voice sounds husky and very sexy. Cass girl what are you thinking? I literally just got out of a relationship there is no point to try something with anyone since I know it will never go anywhere.

"Yes, thank you."

"No problem, Cassie. I'm Nate by the way. Nate Miller."

"Nice to meet you Nate." I lift my hand from his chest and touch his face. "Um, what are you doing?" Crapola now he is going to think I'm a freak too. "Sorry, just trying to guess a face with the name. Since I can't see. I try to learn expressions by touching the face. I'm sorry." I go to remove my hand, but he puts it back. "That sounds cool. Tell me what my expression is." I run my fingers over his face, and he has very smooth skin with a little stubble.

"You're smiling. You have a dimple right here." I put my finger on it and I can feel his body vibrate from chuckling.

"Damn that is cool. What's this expression?" I feel his face again. I love the texture of his skin. "Why are you frowning?" I hear his deep laugh and sigh in relief. "That's a pretty cool power you have there." I can't help but laugh too, I realize that my hand is still on his face, and I almost jump out of my skin when I hear Lily.

"I'm sorry Cass. I didn't think it would take that long. But it looks like you are in good hands. Hi Nate." I let go of his face reluctantly. For some reason I felt safe with him.

"Hey Lily, you two know each other."

"Oh yes, this is my ride or die bitch." I can't help but laugh but my laughter dies away when I hear Hunter calling out to me.

"Can this day get any worse."

"Cass let me explain." I can feel him try to grab for me. I flinch away but then I feel a strong body in front of me.

"Didn't you get the message douchebag? If her slap or my kick to your balls wasn't enough, I will gladly do it again."

"You never liked us together." He sneers.

"Apparently with good reason."

"Is this guy bothering you Cass?" I can feel Nate's body turn towards me. "No, I just want to get to class."

"I'll walk you to class."

"So that's how it is Cass. You dump me and go for the first guy that comes your way. To think I wasted months with you for nothing." I feel the tears ready to fall down my face. This was a bad idea coming back to school.

"What did you say?" I can hear the venom in Nate's voice. Next thing I hear is a crack.

"Ah, fuck! Son of a bitch. I think you broke my nose."

"Be lucky I didn't break anything else asshole."

I feel hands guide me away.

"You guys didn't have to do that but thank you."

"No worries, babes I always got your back. What a first day back, huh?" She chuckles. "Well, this is my class I will meet you at your classroom once first period is over."

"What class do you have?

"Advance History."

"Well, I guess I will walk you to your class since we have the same class together." I nod my head as Lily whispers in my ear, "go get em tiger." I shove her away from me and shake my head but can't help the smile that spreads across my face.

"See you later Goober."

"Later biatch."

I feel Nate take my arm and guide me to our class. "So, you're a junior like me." I shake my head, why do I feel shy around him all of the sudden. "No, I'm a sophomore. Just all my classes are advance classes."

"Wow, beautiful and smart with superpowers." I playfully slap his arm. I try to hide my face because I am sure it is turning red. "Okay, okay." He chuckles. "And strong too."

"Now you're lying." But he doesn't respond as we enter the classroom and I hear the whispers as we enter. He squeezes my hand three times. "I got you Cass."

"Miss Logan your book." Mr. Stevens says. Nate grabs my book for me and takes me to my seat.

"People are starring, aren't they?"

"Pay them no mind Cass."

"I'm a freak." He grabs my chin and although I can't see his face, I can feel his breath against my face. I feel goosebumps form on my skin. What is he doing to me? "You are not a freak. You are brave and courageous. It takes someone with a lot of guts to deal with this crap. And if you don't believe me, use your superpowers." I can't help but giggle a little at that. But I do as he says and feel his face. "You are serious." I can't believe he truly believes that, I mean we have just barely met. He doesn't know anything about me. I could be a serial killer for all he knows but it's like he has faith in his words he says to me.

"Damn straight I am." I can feel the smile on his face. I wish I could see what it looks like.

The day may have started off horribly wrong, but I gained another friend I could trust. I may have a disability now, but in no way, shape or form makes me a freak.
