"you okay?" mike's voice was laced in concern as he prepped himself up on one elbow to look at her face a little more closely.
her face paled so much that she looked like she saw a ghost. the revelation of her feelings started to sink in and poisoned her from the inside.
almost as if she took a bite from the forbidden fruit, deluding herself that this was right and good for her. she only set herself up for another heartbreak.
"yeah." she answered after gulping, pushing herself away from his proximity to create some distance.
she wasn't — she was far from being anything near okay. she felt like she was suffocating at the truth that slapped her across the face.
while she was scheming her own revenge game, she had no clue that the universe was scheming one against her too — like she was ploy of an revenge act to make her suffer for all the silent years of mike going through hell.
it was so sick and twisted.
"are you sure?" his eyebrows dipped together as he sat up straight this time, subconsciously nearing himself towards her to make sense of the sudden shift in the mood.
"i'm sure." she answered, perhaps a little bit too snappy and winced at her own tone of voice. she shook her head, pushing her bangs out of her face. "i'm sorry, mike. i didn't mean to sound so bitchy, i just—" she let a breath out. "can we go back home?"
the concern on his face didn't vanish the slightest, he looked at her wordlessly for a few seconds before he vaguely nodded and gave into her words. "okay."
when they both got up from the snow pile on the ground, she absentmindedly created some distance between them. not too much to make him question why she's standing further away but enough for their hands not to accidentally brush together.
their walk out of the school ground was ten times more quiet than before and she might've thought how awkward it was if her thoughts weren't so loud.
she couldn't help the way she was thinking about wanting to cup those reddened cheeks of his and press a kiss against his lips. she was thinking of holding hands with him, swaying them happily around as if they didn't have a single care in the world.
she was thinking of him wanting her for more than just her body — that she means more to him than an occasional fuck simply because he can't go around to be with other women.
she wants to watch all those disney movies with him not because of the plot anymore but because she wants to know his reactions, know his thoughts, hear his comments even if she disagrees.
yeah, fuck that.
she's getting way too ahead of herself — no way her feelings are this intense towards him. it simply makes no sense as to why they should be this intense.
maybe she was stuck with him for a little too long and they need some days apart.
as they kept walking together in silence, mike suddenly stopped his tracks. el was so far in her own thoughts that she didn't notice that and collided against his back.
she creased her eyebrows, looking at him questioningly. when there was no reaction coming from him for several seconds, she started to worry about him turning into stone.
just as she was about to call for his name and ask what's wrong, someone else beat her to it.
"michael."
her eyes snapped towards the sound of the voice, in near distance towards them was an older man who looked just about as shocked as mike did.
when she shifted her eyes back on mike, she noticed how his tensed jaw was ticking.
