"the last party we went to was months ago, el and mind you, it was for new year's. let's be careless college students for one day, come on."

she heard max saying this exact same phrase approximately five times already and each time, she tried it with a different tone. her voice changed from pleading to demanding to whiny.

"max, if you want to go so badly, you're free to do so." she shrugged, "you don't need me around to be a careless college student."

"but i do." she pouted, "you need to stop drowning in your own misery and live life again. mourning over a dead relationship until the end of times won't get you anywhere."

ouch, harsh.

el sent her a deathly glare over. "thanks for the encouraging words, max. i surely feel like attending the party now."

"alright, i agree, that was harsh." max winced, "but my point stands. it sucks that things between you and mike ended and even though you say it was a mutual decision, you don't seem to be handling it well — but for how long will you refuse to go out because of that?"

el looked away, crossing her arms over her chest. "i'm not refusing to go out, i'm simply not in the mood for a party."

max had a small teasing smile on her face. "don't lie, you always are in the mood for a party."

"well, not today."

max sighed and started sitting next to el on her bed. "el, i love you and i respect your wishes but please for the sake of me, let's go to that stupid party together. i swear, the moment you feel like you want to leave, we will leave but i don't want to see you locking yourself to your bedroom anymore."

she hasn't been locking herself to her bedroom per se but it's true that ever since she purposefully set mike up with someone else, she didn't have it in herself to go out anymore.

pushing him towards someone else didn't quite elicit the reaction that she was hoping for. when she saw them exchanging phone numbers (or that's what she guessed), she noticed the excited expression on the girl's face even through the distance.

it made her feel like dying.

she couldn't stand being in that place any longer and left the rink. when she spotted lucas after he got himself something to drink, she told him that she's not feeling well and wants to leave, that she may have caught max's cold since they constantly saw each other lately.

he gave her an understanding nod and told her to rest well.

which she took quite literally because she's been laying on her bed, watching rom-com's with unrealistic depiction of love and listening to sad taylor swift songs ever since.

alright, perhaps max did have a point.

though she wasn't feeling all that ready to attend a party, it may help her divert her thoughts.

max would be there with her and whenever she'd feel like it was too much or that she doesn't want to stay any longer, they would leave together.

after a couple seconds of silently complementing her plea, el let a sigh of defeat out. "fine." she gave in, making max clap her hands together in excitement. "but you really have to leave with me if i don't want to stay there longer."

"promise!" the redhead held on el's hands and pushed her up, dragging her towards her closet.

they got ready together while max was trying to uplift her mood by singing and dancing dramatically next to el. she managed to crack a laughter out of her every now and then.
