his fingers hovered over the keyboard for minutes, the indecisiveness was almost tearing him apart.

can he simply text her when he knows that they'll break up later today?

let's meet up today...

instantly deleted— well, it's given that they'll meet up later but it's not to hang out.

hey, i was thinking that we...

fuck, what's wrong with him? that sounds even worse. he deleted the words again and sighed, internally cussing at himself for being unable to find the right words for the message.

coffee at paul's?

he looked at the text for a while, contemplating whether it was good enough to send and decided that he couldn't come up with anything better.

he pressed on the 'send' button and placed his phone away again, cupping his head in his hands as he let a sigh out.

shit.

the past few months with el felt too real to him, too good to even remember that this thing that they had was a simple arrangement.

he knew this was the end and he couldn't stop his mind from letting the memories of their fake-dating time flooding in.

el had a frown on her face, eyebrows furrowed together with a little scrunch on her nose. he knew where her gaze had landed because he'd been the one to find them in the first place.

kai and his new girlfriend were sitting around a table nearby, laughing and smiling while they shared a milkshake together.

so fucking corny.

he directed his gaze back on el to see that her frown deepened and he had no clue how to read her. was she sad by the sight or angry? did she want him back or get back at him?

he didn't know — and he didn't care.

she looked away from the scene, letting out a frustrated breath while she reached for a fry and angrily shoved it in her mouth. "i hate him."

alright, seems like she's more angry than sad.

"that makes two of us." he replied, reaching for a fry himself.

she crossed her arms over the table, her anger momentarily replaced with vulnerability when she looked at him. "do you think he'll see us together?"

seeing that look in her eyes made him want to reach forward and take her hand in his, comfortingly squeezing it to assure her that he'll help — but he immediately opted against it, shaking that ridiculous thought out of his head. "i'll get his attention, don't worry."

she gave him a little smile after his response, one that showed the dimples in her cheeks.

this was still something he had to get used to — seeing el's smile being directed at him. it's so strange to be on the receiving end and for some unexplainable reason to him, it seems to throw him off balance each time.

as stupid as it sounded to him even, he wanted to keep the smile on her face. he pushed the milkshake in her direction in an attempt to get her mind elsewhere. "c'mon drink it, the whipped cream is gonna melt."
