TWO MONTHS LATER.
el loves winter. she enjoys the holidays that come with the season, she enjoys the refreshing atmosphere, she enjoys watching snow glisten on the sidewalks.
but she also loves seeing the transition from winter to spring — she loves the way snow melts away and makes room for flowers to bloom.
she loves watching naked trees grow a gown with vibrant green leaves and pink petals of flowers. it was sweet observing the warm shift in the air, noticing birds chirping happily in the morning and days being longer, filled with sun.
today could've been the perfect spring day too — the sun was grazing her body through the slits of her curtain like a comforting blanket, offering her a good start into her day.
with the exception that there was nothing that could turn this into a good day.
today was the day her and mike break up.
well, if you can call it a break up. it's the end of a deal, not the end of an actual relationship. they set the deadline at the very beginning, it was supposed to come to this.
the thought of losing mike was filling her with such dread and sadness that she couldn't put into words. the stolen moments she had with him were set to eventually fade into nothing, not giving her the chance again to rob those same moments.
as soon as she woke up, she was thinking of how she could prolong this thing between them for a little longer. what if she said that she's sick and that they should postpone the inevitable?
pathetic, she knows.
the ending was approaching like a fast car driving towards the edge of a cliff with no working brakes. you know that you'll free fall and there's nothing you can do to stop it but accept your fate.
she sighed, dread filling her stomach as she reached for her phone on the nightstand next to her bed. she tapped on her screen to see that mike sent her a message some minutes prior.
her stomach sunk, thinking that it might've been his text to end it all without seeing each other. but when she clicked on it and read 'coffee at paul's?," referring to the bistro right by the campus, she let a breath of relief out.
she agreed to his text and got out of the bed to get ready. there wasn't the usual enthusiasm that clung to her whenever she went out with mike, her thoughts kept echoing that this is their last meet-up.
come to think of it — maybe it would've been better if they ended it via messages. she'd much rather have a dry text by him than actually having to see him for it.
how is she supposed to walk away when her heart would beg her to stay by his side?
while her mind was in a turmoil with different thoughts and her insides were filled with a tornado of emotions, she ended up getting ready and drove off with her car towards the campus.
music was softly blasting in the car as some sort of distraction from the ongoing mess inside of her — but it seemed like everything was reminding her of him, as if her favorite songs were all written about them.
she'll never be able to listen to them in the same way again.
a sigh left her mouth when she parked her car, it took every ounce of power within her to find the courage to open the door and walk in the direction of the bistro.
