the sound of something crashing rattled her awake. her eyes shot open and she threw the quilt off of her body exactly at the same time.

with sleep-soaked eyes, she looked around her room to see if anything was out of place in her room. after a few seconds, it started to sink in that the noise didn't come from her room but from the other side of the door.

she lazily stood up after that and made her way towards it, opening the door slightly to peek through the slit.

"mike?" she asked in confusion when she opted to open the door further.

he turned around to look at her, there was a wince on his face. "shit, did i wake you up?" he asked, "sorry, i didn't see the dresser and kinda stumbled on it, didn't mean to wake you."

there were a couple of books on top of it which fell down after the collusion, he picked them up and placed them clumsily back.

"yeah." she yawned and rubbed her eye. "it's okay, what time is it?"

he put his hand on the surface of the dresser and questioningly looked around for a second. "around nine am, i think."

el yawned again, crossing her arms over her chest. "alright, where were you going? are you hungry?"

"no, no." he shook his head. "i just wanted to leave to get back to my dorm, things could be awkward if i stayed for breakfast with your brother around. i wanted to leave quietly so, sorry again for that."

"oh." she said. "yeah, no, i understand."

she didn't trust will around mike anymore, there was (unfortunately) no doubt in her mind that he would take the opportunity to spout something distasteful out again.

she also didn't want to endure what he has to say after he caught them on the couch the night before. her cheeks still threatened to turn red by the mere thought of what could've happened between them if will decided to show up just seconds later.

her tongue darted out to subconsciously lick her lips, she took a tiny step forward in his direction. "so." she cleared her throat and hesitated for a bit. "would it be okay if i came with you? i kinda don't want to deal with him today either."

she regretted what she said as soon as the words left her mouth, she should've stayed silent instead of impulsively saying things without thinking them through.

he seemed visibly shocked by her words, his eyes widened just slightly when looking at her. "sure." he unsurely answered, "but i have to warn you, dustin and lucas are there. you should mentally prepare yourself to them being annoying."

a chuckle left her lips. "that's fine, i find them funny. i'll quickly change into something else, wait for me?"

he nodded. "i'll wait downstairs on the porch."

she simply shot him a quick smile over before closing the door and quickly searching for clothes to trade her pajamas with. a couple minutes later when she was ready to go, she went downstairs to meet him outside.

he was waiting for her with his hands buried in his pockets, kicking an invisible stone around in boredom. the first thing she asked him when she saw him again was if they should take her car to drive over but he denied and said that he came with a car already.

he also mentioned that the guys are weirdly obedient when it comes to el and end up giving him the car without fighting — which is extremely rare since all of them want to claim the vehicle during weekends.

after a couple minutes of driving together in silence, el piped up again and turned her body to him. "can i use the aux?"

he threw her a quick glance over before focusing on the road again. "go ahead." he said, "i just hope that our tastes in music don't clash all too much."
