I ran up to the front door and heard the man walking behind me. I looked from out of the doorway and saw a red ball roll past me. I quickly ran out and saw something so I started hitting it with the fire extinguisher while screaming. I then heard male screaming and I stopped screaming and hitting. "OWW! What the hell?!" Simon stood up straight while holding his back. "Uh, you--you just scared me." I said in a panicked tone. "What the hell happened here?" he asked in a higher-pitched voice while I extinguished the burning flames. "My mom's missing." I said, "What?" Simon asked, "Someone took her and destroyed the place." I panted and wiped the sweat from my forehead "So uh...this guy...is out back trying to find her but you can't see him and--" I said out of breath and stopped when I realized he wasn't where I last saw him. "Courtney." Simon put his bag down "Great. I can't--I can't see him either." I put my hands on my forehead and saw Simon looking in another doorway. When I looked over I saw the tall blonde walk in. "Jace Wayland. Demon hunter." he finally introduced himself while Jace walked over to us. "Uh...Simon Lewis...key master. Are you the gatekeeper?" Simon asked Jace as a reference to Ghostbusters.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Jace said and I chuckled a bit while he walked back into the next room. "Wait do you see that man?" I asked Simon while pointing to Jace. "Of course, I can see him." Simon looked at me "No--I-" Simon and I talked over each other for a second while we watched Jace go through the cabinets "This is so confusing." I said. "Who's this?" Jace held up a now burnt picture of my real dad from when he was in the military "Uh..my dad. He died when I was two." I spoke. "Courtney so you--" Simon grabbed me and pulled me aside "So your mom is...gone...and you're hiding out with some dyed blonde wannabe goth weirdo?" Simon sorta chuckled while speaking "Where'd you even come across this guy?" he asked "I didn't. He found me." I told Simon. "He what?" Simon asked, "I know--" Jace walked in and handed me a phone "You should check this." he said, "Oh, and for the record, my hair's naturally blonde." Jace said to Simon before leaning in the doorway. I opened the phone and saw missed calls from my mom "She's called you?" I asked Simon who was at a loss for words "Why didn't you pick up?!" I yelled, "If I had known it was serious I would have picked up." Simon attempted to defend himself "Well how would you know if you didn't fucking pick up?!" I shouted at Simon.

Simon shrugged and I groaned and turned to Jace who was holding some bottle "What the hell's that?" I asked. He walked over to me and looked down at my face while holding the bottle in front of him. "Nothing good." he spoke while I looked at the bottle. "Do you have any idea where she got this?" he asked, "I've gotta find Luke." I spoke. I ran out of the door and then we all ran outside in the pouring rain to Luke's workplace. Upon our arrival, we saw the gate was down and there was a sign in there that said "closed". I grabbed the gate and violently shook it but gave up "If he's not here then why is his truck here?" I asked after looking at the big truck parked in front of the building. "This way." I said and they followed me underneath a covered area. Jace stopped Simon from coming with me as I took off my hood "Who made you the boss?" Simon asked "It's okay just stay here." I told Simon as Jace and I walked into the secondary entrance for employees only. "I've known Luke all these years yet I've never really been down here before." I said. When we walked up some stairs I saw a tiny padded room the size of a closet with the door wide open. I looked inside and there was nothing. Then we heard someone speaking. I began walking but Jace grabbed my shoulder, causing me to gasp. He pulled me back and walked in front of me.

I followed behind Jace as we walked up more stairs and heard more voices. We quietly snuck throughout the building as the people inside continued their conversations. We hid behind a bookshelf and Jace suddenly pulled out what looked like a pen and when he tapped it on his hand, it began to glow. He put it on a book and the air around it began to ripple and glow blue light. It then became a clear window for what was behind the bookshelf. "We need to go." Jace said as we watched a man punch Luke. I grabbed Jace's hand and continued looking through the window "Please. You have to help me." I pleaded. "You don't understand. They work for Valentine. He's a dead man, I can't help him." Jace said and I looked him in the eyes while still keeping my hand on top of his "He's my family. Please." I said before looking back through the window. I saw Jace quickly look at my face then my hand on top of his and then through the window again. I suddenly flinched as another punch landed in Luke's face, causing me to grip Jace's hand tighter. "Please." I looked at him and then he removed his hand from the tool and walked somewhere else.

I listened as Luke said "I don't want her back. I couldn't care less. I have spent years cozying up to that woman and her want for the mortal code. You listen to me, I want to be the one to give her away to Valentine." My heart shattered and I moved the tool away from the book and felt lightheaded. I stumbled backward and knocked over a vase that shattered on the floor. I stood up straight and looked Luke in the eyes. "COURTNEY RUN!" Jace shouted, "COURTNEY LISTEN!" Luke tried to stop me but I ran. I sprinted toward the exit of the building and as I got out, I saw an officer that Simon was speaking to. I watched as the officer removed their glasses and their eyes rolled to the back other their head.
