Jace pulled me back and Alec grabbed a large piece of wood. I angrily took off my heeled boots and literally walked the plank. I walked up to Simon and looked at his face "He's alive!" I exclaimed and removed a chain from his neck "They don't want me." Simon struggled while shaking his head. "They want you. They want the cup!" Simon said as I shook my head and Jace lifted his head with his eyebrows raised. We got Simon out of the chains and Jace helped us get back to stable ground. I put my shoes back on as Jace put Simon's arm on his shoulder and the ceiling began to crack holes. "Let's go!" Alec yelled "Oh god." I said as I followed behind them. I ran up to Jace and Simon and lifted Simon's other arm around my shoulders while Jace shined a light for us. We followed the trail that Alec left and as we looked up we saw a clan of vampires staring at us. I screamed as two more jumped from the ceiling and we all clamored to try to get out.
We ran into an empty dining hall and watched as the vampires slowly flooded in "Jace." I said anxiously, and both he and Alec turned around. Alec pointed a knife and one and then they all ran toward us. I held onto Simon as we watched them fight. We were clueless as to what to do. I slowly got down to my knees near a table and then two vampires walked toward us but Jace went between them and stabbed them in their chests. "BEHIND YOU!" I screamed as more vampires appeared behind Jace. Alec turned to Jace and helped him fend off more as I grabbed Simon and brought him under the table. Jace did a flip over a chair and landed on the table, stabbing a vampire through the heart. As I looked next to me, I screamed as a knife came through the table just inches away from my face. Jace looked up in fear that he had hurt me before he leaned over the side of the table and looked at Simon and me.
Simon and I crawled under the long table and I gasped as a vampire fell to the floor next to me and reached for my arm. I took a platter from off of the ground and began screaming as I mercilessly hit the vampire before crawling faster. We climbed out from under the table and I stood in front of Simon with my arms outstretched to cover him. While watching to make sure nothing else happened to Isabelle, Jace, or Alec, a vampire grabbed my shoulder and turned me around to face him as I screamed. he violently shook me before I quickly reached into my pocket and grabbed the vampire gun and pressed it to his chest, squeezing the trigger. I stared at the vampire with my mouth open in shock before he let go of my shoulders and fell off of the weapon. I continued to stare at the vampire gun before reloading it. I looked up and saw Jace looking back at me.
Alec, Jace, and Isabelle all walked back to the corner that Simon and I were in. "There's too many of them." Isabelle said, "Have a little faith." Jace said and we all looked at him. As the vampires began walking over to us, suddenly a window was broken and werewolves began coming in and ripping apart the vampires. "GO!" I yelled as Jace ran with Simon and I followed behind. We ran out of the building and I put Simon's arm on my shoulder and walked a little bit until a vampire jumped in front of us and both Simon and I screamed. "RUN!" Jace shouted at us and we did. Another vampire appeared in front of us but was grabbed by a werewolf. The werewolf turned its head and snarled at me. "Jace I need your knife." I said as he came up behind me. I grabbed the knife and stabbed the werewolf and looked at the glowing sky "The sun! I said, "Let's go." Jace said and I sprinted toward the roof. I watched as Simon struggled up the ladder "You help Simon!" I shouted over the noise. Jace lifted Simon up and then climbed the ladder. I climbed behind him and as I reached the top a vampire grabbed my leg and started pulling me down "JACE!" I shouted "Courtney!" Jace yelled and grabbed my arm, pulling me.
I yelled as the vampire dug its nails into my skin but then the vampire hissed as the sun hit its hand and let go. Jace wrapped his arms around me as we fell to the ground. I groaned and sighed as we hit the cement. I looked down at Jace's face which was inches away from mine as his hands remained on my back. "Thank you." I said as our noses brushed over each other and I took a breath "For saving Simon." I finished my sentence. I stared at his lips while I spoke. Then I put my hand on my shoulder and pushed myself us, his grip loosening as I did so. Isabelle then climbed up the ladder and I walked over to Simon. I put my hands on his face to examine the marks. "Are you okay?" I asked, "Yeah. I'm okay." he spoke as he breathed heavily and Jace stared at us, jealous maybe.
We took off and went back to the Institution. I changed my clothes and went downstairs to find Simon. "Courtney." Alec called my name and stopped me. I turned around and looked at him. "Can I talk to you?" he asked, "Yeah, I was just gonna go see Simon." I told him as he seemed to angrily walk up to me. "I want you to leave here." he looked down at me and I contorted my face in confusion "What?" I asked, "You almost got us killed.' he said with no emotion as I looked at him with my mouth slightly agape. "I-I'm sorry we didn't have a choice. We had to save Simon and Jace--" I began "Jace thinks he needs to save the world. But you...don't need to encourage him to do it." Alec told me. "That's what you guys do." I began to raise my voice "Yes! Us. What we do. We're a team. You're dead weight. A Mundane." he said, "I'm not a Mundane!" I seethed. "And if you were as half as brave as you pretend to be, you would admit--"
"What?" he titled his head a bit "You'd admit that you're in love with Jace and that's what this is really about!" I yelled and then he grabbed my throat and threw me against a wall. I gasped as he stared at me. "If you ever...say anything like that again...I will kill you." he breathed heavily and let me go before speed walking away. I grabbed my throat and gasped for air.
