"Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, when I say I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it so I'm emailing him right now." I said over the phone to my friend Simon "Well I don't when he's gonna get back to me because you know sometimes he doesn't check." I told Simon as he impatiently waited. "What are you doing after the poetry reading?" Simon questioned, "Well you know that after the reading I'm not going home. It's my birthday so...I...wanna go to a club." I said while aimlessly walking around the house. I reached the steamy bathroom and while speaking I drew a symbol in the fogged-up mirror. "Are you going to lie to your mom?" Simon asked, "God, no, Simon. I'm not gonna lie to her. I'm just uh not gonna tell her." I said as I then walked to my room and opened the closet door. "Oh, that's real smart." Simon said as I chuckled and walked down the steps. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a notepad and drew the same symbol on it beneath the number Simon gave me for whatever reason. My mother walked in the door carrying a large canvas. "Hey you." she smiled at me. I then pointed to the phone with my pen "Simon." I told her and she nodded.

"Hi Simon." my mother said as she leaned near the phone "He says call me." I smiled and looked up at her "Mhm." she nodded her head and began putting groceries away. "Hey, Luke." I looked behind me "Hey, Courtney." he replied, carrying groceries as well. "Well, will it take you long to change?" Simon asked "No, I can dress quick!" I said, standing up and walking out of the room. "You want some coffee?" Luke asked, "If I drink some coffee I'm gonna be late." I told him "Yeah, I'll meet you there." I said to Simon before we said goodbye and hung up. I walked into the other room to grab my purse and change but when I came back to grab the notepad, the top sticky note was missing. I pointed at the blank sheet and looked up at my mother "Did you just use--" she began talking over me "How are you feeling?" she asked while leaning against the counter. "Uh, fine. Why?" I asked and walked back into the kitchen "Make sure you come straight home tonight." she walked over to me "Mom. Come on. It's just a poetry reading." I shrugged my shoulders "I know." my mother sighed and put my chin in her hand. She let go and I walked to the door, grabbed my jacket, and said goodbye before leaving.

I got in my car and met Simon under a bridge near where the reading was being held. "By the way, thanks for doing this. This poetry means a lot to me." Simon thanked me as we walked to the venue "Of course, man, that's what friends are for." I smiled. Simon and I just stared at Eric who reading a very grotesque poem. "I can't listen to this guy, want another coffee?" Simon asked as he stood up. "Yeah, please." I nodded and looked back at Eric. I sighed and smiled as I saw a blonde flirting with Simon. "Here you go." he sat the coffee down in front of me and then sat down in his seat. "That blonde girl was totally flirting with you, you should ask her out." I smiled at him while putting sugar in my coffee. "No, no, it wouldn't be fair. I'm saving myself for somebody else." Simon replied. "Who?" I rolled my eyes and looked at Simon. People suddenly began clapping and Simon turned away from me "Hey!" he said as he clapped as well.

"Thank you very much. Thank you." Eric said as Simon clapped and then gave two very enthusiastic thumbs up toward him. I looked down at my coffee and stared at it for a second. I noticed a symbol in it. The same symbol I had been drawing all day. I ignored it and assumed coincidence so I took a sip. "His stuff is getting worse, at this point maybe you should tell him." I told Simon as we walked out of the venue. "Maybe his poetry is great and you just don't know it yet." Simon proposed and I scoffed. As we walked through the alley I saw a glowing sign and stopped Simon "Hey, let's go in here." I smiled and pointed at this sign that had the same symbol I have been drawing all day on it "I wanna ask what that symbol means." I said while walking towards the building. "We'll never get in." Simon said, catching up to me. "Such the eternal optimist." I said sarcastically while taking the clip out of my hair and letting it flow past my shoulders. "This is so not like you." Simon replied "Just go with it. For once." I slowly nodded and turned to a member of security who was standing outside. "Uhm...hi. What does that symbol mean?" I asked the man as I stared at the glowing sign above our heads. I looked down at the security guard and saw a man with spiked hair stop in his tracks "What symbol?" the security guard asked, "Yeah, what symbol?" Simon asked.

I looked at the wall that continued glowing "Right there on the wall. You don't--you don't see it?" I asked and turned back to see the man whispering in the security guard's ear. The security guard suddenly moved the rope and let us in. I made a surprised expression toward Simon as he chuckled and walked behind me "That was cool." Simon said. We walked inside the buzzing club and saw some punk rockers, metalheads, and goths dancing. "Yeah, we're fitting in."  Simon said as he swayed on the dance floor and I laughed. "Go with it! Go with it!" I laughed as I danced to the beat.
