"This is where the Silent Brothers get all their power." Jace said as we walked through more tunnels. "From the bones and ashes of Shadowhunters." Jace looked at me as I looked at the wall. "All of them are buried here?" I asked, "Yes. One day...that's gonna be me." he said while tapping one of the skulls on the wall. We kept walking and went through one more gate before Jace abruptly stopped. "This is as far as I go. You'll be okay." he told me as Silent Brothers walked into the corridor "So you've done this before?" I asked him and he paused "No." he whispered and moved his head to look at my face. "Go." he whispered as he put his hand on my back and gently pushed me forward. I looked up at the ceiling and then one of the Brothers grabbed my shoulder and slowly pulled me into a circle on the floor. I looked around as they began whispering chants and the knife from the ceiling struck down at me and I jumped as I showed back up at my house and saw my younger self walking. As I walked behind little me I saw my mother trying to wash off the lines.
"Courtney, this is Luke, one of my dearest friends." my mother said distortedly. "You can trust him." she spoke. I then saw a smaller me walk into the living room and picked up the capsule that held the mortal cup. Then slightly older me holding the ace of cups. The mortal cup card. Images flashed around my brain of my mother and Luke but then I was suddenly back in the city of Bones, collapsing to the ground at the overload of information. "Courtney!" Jace yelled as he ran to my side and held my shoulder "Courtney, are you okay?" he asked, "Courtney." he whispered with both of his hands on my shoulder as I struggled on the ground. I unwillingly reached my hand out and began drawing something in the dust on the ground "The block is stronger than we thought. It needs to be unblocked by the person that blocked it." Jace said "I have no idea who put it there." I said as I sat up "You wrote it." Jace spoke, staring at the floor. "Your mind remembers the inverted image, we just have to revert it." Jace said as he connected the dots to make letters "B A N E. Bane." he spoke and I looked at him in confusion "Who? Who is Bane?" I asked.
"Magnus Bane, he's a warlock. We should talk." Jace said "Well what are we waiting for? We should go talk to him then!" I said and Jace turned his head to look at me "Not like that. You could ask Isabelle for some clothes." he said looking at my outfit, specifically my tight shirt. I looked down and looked back up to see Jace walking away "Let's go." he said so I followed. Jace talked to Isabelle and she took me to her room and gave me a dress to put on. "This is a top." I spoke from the bathroom "It's a dress." Isabelle said and I could practically hear her rolling her eyes "I cannot pull this off." I said, tugging at the fabric and walking out of the bathroom "Well actually, with the right shoes--" Isabelle began but I stopped her "No I physically cannot pull this off, this dress is so tight it's like a second skin." I groaned while still tugging at the skin-tight fabric. "I don't mean to sound ungrateful but don't you have anything else?" I asked as I walked over to her bed and rummaged through the pile of clothes. She took a deep breath before speaking "If you go out looking like a Mundane you won't get within a hundred feet of Magnus Bane." Isabelle said, "He's the highest warlock of Brooklyn. Now...stop complaining and come with me." she said as she grabbed my shoulders and pushed me in front of her.
"That guy Alec doesn't like me very much." I spoke as she pulled back my curly black hair "That guy Alec is my brother." Isabelle smiled and I made an awkward face "Does Jace know how Alex feels about him?" I questioned, "Is it that obvious?" Isabelle asked "It's really not that big of a deal." I shrugged, "It isn't to me either, but it is to the Clave. I don't make the rules." Isabelle took the clip from my hands and put it in my hair. "See." she smiled "You look very pretty." she told me as we both looked at me in the mirror. "How's being dressed like might I add a very well dress hooker going to help me find my mom?" I asked as I put on provided shoes and a jacket before walking out of the room "Easy no, those are my clothes." Isabelle said as Simon walked down the hallway and stopped when he saw me "Doesn't she look great, Alec?" Isabelle asked her brother "She looks like whose phone number should be on a bathroom wall." Alec said while walking past us while Jace just stopped walking "I'm going to take that as a yes actually. Got o be hot to be a successful hooker, right? Actually don't answer that, let me just have this one." I said. "I think you look great." Jace said as he looked me up and down and then I smiled at him before we walked away.
"Wait I've--been here." I spoke as we reached a building. Jace drew something through the window that left the door opener in a trance. This gave us time to sneak into whatever place this was. Jace and I walked inside and it was like a party. A group of girls was looking at me and I began walking but Jace grabbed my arm "Wait." he said "What?" I asked as I turned to face him. He looked at me for a second before reaching a hand behind me and taking the clip out of my hair. I chuckled lightly and smiled as he brushed his fingers through my hair "That better?" I asked with a raised eyebrow "Mhm, that's better." he looked down at me with a small smile and my hairclip in his hand. I shook my head a little bit and began walking "Well, well, well. Lookie here, I don't remember inviting any children of the Nevilam." a man said to Jace. "Magnus Bane." Jace spoke and nodded as I stared at the powerful warlock. "You know I don't like you guys. but I'll let you stay. Only because of the hot one." Bane said "Thanks." both Isabelle and Jace replied "What?" Bane asked and looked between Jace and me "I meant him. the one with the blue eyes..." Bane said, causing Alec to chuckle "And because of Courtney." Bane said which caused me to turn my head away from Alec to face Bane.
