"Wait, how do you know her name?" Simon walked closer behind me "Come with me." Bane took my hand and led me to a room. "Where's your mom?" he asked "She's missing." I told him and he looked away "That explains it." he spoke. "Every year she brought you here, she never missed an appointment." he said taking a drink "Not every spell turns out as perfect as the one I did on you." Bane said and I looked at him. "As soon as you started drawing the angelic rune, it was a sign your memory was surfacing. I built that into her mind so she would know when to bring you back. What you saw in the Shadow World you would forget, even if saw it. As you grew older, you needed my treatment more frequently. She knew she had to tell you one day, and until you were ready, she put the block on your mind. Exactly how she wanted it." Bane spoke and everything pieced together. "It's gonna wear off eventually, it already is wearing off. That's why you're here." Bane said "I need to remember. My mom doesn't have time, please. There must be something you can do!" I shouted while pacing around the room.

I looked behind him and saw a pile of paintings. "You're the one who buys all of my mom's paintings." I walked behind him and picked one of them up "Why did you buy all of them?" I asked, "I knew she needed the money." Bane replied, "You even have a portrait of my dad." I sighed, "That's...not your dad." he shook his head "He's a soldier who died in Iraq, Jocelyn never even met the guy." Bane said "She was asked to paint the portrait but it was too painful for the widow. She kept a picture so--" I cut him off and I lowered the painting as I turned to face him. "So she could pretend he was my dad." I nodded and threw the painting "Everything she did, she did for you. Your mother's whole existence. the running, this hiding, the lies...were to keep you safe." Bane said as I walked to the door and stopped to listen to him. "Was anything she ever told me true?" I questioned as tears slowly crept up on my waterline. "There's a treasure map inside your head, Courtney. Fine the cup and it will lead you to your mother." Bane said and I turned to face him. "They've taken Simon." Jace ran to the door "Wha--who?" I asked. "Vampires." Jace said and I began to run but Bane grabbed my arm and turned me to face him. "Just remember, it was Shadowhunters your mom was running from." Bane said before I started running behind Jace.

"We can't break into a vampire's lair. We never learn." Alec said, "Don't start." Jace snapped "Guys what are we even doing here? I thought we were trying to find Simon." I said, running up the stairs "We know where he is. We just need to pick up a few things first." Jace said as he used the same tool from before to get inside the building. "What is this? Some kind of deal you have with the church?" I asked as we all walked through a church. Jace got down on the floor and blew the dust off of the ground. "Demons exist all over the world in different parts. Religion also plays a nice part in this." he blew the dust off one more time "Here it is." he said and Isabelle walked back to us. He stuck the tool in the ground and twisted it, then a panel lifted up. "In every alter of a church you will find this." he said as he struggled to lift up the cement block. He smiled at me and lifted up a door that ended up being a lid to a box of weapons. "Here, you take this one." he handed me what looked like a normal pistol but then he got up and stood next to me "Let me show you. This is a vampire gun. Put it against the chest at the heart and squeeze." he said as I squeezed the trigger and watched as spikes flew out "And reload." he pulled back the top and smiled at me like he was proud or something.

We walked outside all loaded with different types of weaponry and we reached their lair "Hotel of Death?" I asked as I looked at the sign "Can't say they don't have a sense of humor." Jace looked at the sign "Come on." Isabelle said as everyone followed me inside the open door. "What is about her?" Alec asked Jace, "She's brave." Jace spoke, "We're Shadowhunters, we're all brave." Alec said angrily "She wasn't raised like us, she's different." Jace explained, "She's going to get us all killed." Alec said before walking inside the building behind Isabelle and me. Jace quickly caught up to us and walked in front with a flashlight. Suddenly we heard distant screeching, causing us to all gasp and turn toward the sound. I looked at a small staircase and ran toward it. While walking up the stairs and through hallways, I looked down at the ground and saw a trail of blood. I stopped and stared for a moment before looking at the shirt next to it. Jace walked up behind me and shined the flashlight in the direction I was looking. "That's Simon's shirt." I spoke and turned to walk the other way but gasped as Jace grabbed me. I turned my head to look at him and he began walking in front of me.

I followed close behind Jace and looked at all my surroundings, including the ceiling that seemed to have been broken in. We stopped walking when we heard more noise and Jace quickly went to the door and shined his light through it. "He's up here." Jace said and I ran over to him. I looked through the cracks and saw Simon hanging from the ceiling. I quickly ran in front of Jace, and up the stairs again. I abruptly stopped as I saw Simon. "Oh my god. Oh my god." I said as I ran to him. "Courtney!" Jace grunted as he ran up to me. I held onto a pillar and reached for Simon but he was too far away. I grunted as I kept trying but soon I was grabbed by Jace. "NO I CAN'T LEAVE HIM!" I yelled as Jace grunted again and pulled me away from Simon.
