"I had to make sure you gave me the real one." the man said. "Everybody wants the cup for the wrong reason." he said as he set the cup down and picked up the knife next to it, and stabbed his hand, spilling his blood into the cup. "And you don't?" I asked as my voice wavered "With this cup, I can cleanse our bloodlines. Save our race." he said, "She might not know much about Mundane history but I can tell you when someone starts talking about preserving a race, it never fucking ends well. My mom spent her whole life hiding from you." I said as I looked at the man who I now recognize as Valentine. "No. She wasn't hiding herself, she was hiding you." he said as he picked up the cup and put it on my chest "Drink." he demanded as I looked down at the cup "I'm not gonna drink that." I shook my head "Why are you so afraid?" he asked, "You've been drinking this since before you were born." he pushed the cup harder on my chest.

"I fed it to your mother while you were in her womb." Valentine said in my ear but I shook my head again "Oh come on Courtney. You must've guessed by now. All these amazing talents that your mother tried so hard to repress. Where do you think they came from?" he got in my face and brushed some hair from my face as I shook my head "You're my daughter." he whispered and I continued shaking my head "My blood runs in your veins. Now...drink." he put the cup to my lips "DRINK!" he shouted and I jumped while staring at the cup. I put my hand on the cup and brought it to my face but then slammed it into the tarot card, the blood spilling out onto the card. "GET OUT!" he picked up the card and screamed at it as I ran to the portal and saw my mother floating in it. I looked up and saw Valentine's henchmen. I jumped down the stairs and ran near the portal. "NO!" Valentine shouted as I jumped through the portal. I screamed as I hit the wet ground.

I looked up and saw a little girl skipping in the street. She slowly began walking over to me. When she walked closer her face contorted the same way Dorothea's did. Out of nowhere the little girl was grabbed by a werewolf and thrown into the glass window of a nearby store. I screamed as the glass shattered and the demon kept shrieking. I watched as the werewolf began ripping the clothes off of the mannequins and when they walked out, I saw Luke. I gasped when I fully recognized him and then a tentacle came for him and he mercilessly stomped on it. "Sorry...I got a bit carried away." Luke said as he stepped out of the store. "Luke you're a--" I gasped while speaking as I crawled backward "Courtney, listen to me." Luke put his hand up to stop me from moving "Don't be afraid." he said, "Don't touch me!" I screamed as he put his hand on my shoulder "Okay...there's no need for that." he shook his head "That thing...will be back! We are not safe out here!" he yelled as I backed away slowly.

I stood up and followed Luke as he wrapped me in his jacket "I jumped through the portal to get away from Valentine." I sighed, "I thought I'd end up with my mom." I continued. "I somehow ended up in the last place I wanted to be." I walked through the open door. "Listen. The portal brought you here because you must have been thinking about me." Luke turned around after locking the door. "Deep inside, I know you trust me." Luke walked past me "You said you couldn't care less about what happens to us." I looked at him.  "You just want the cup like everyone else." I sighed, "I said that to protect you, what else could I do?" he put his hands up in surrender. I looked into his eyes and saw the same eyes from the hotel "That was you at the hotel..." I said as he put the knife I threw on the table "Good throw by the way." he spoke. "Is it true?" I asked, "Is Valentine, my real father?" I looked at Luke.

"Y'know, he was a great man. Until his conflict with the Clave. When your mother ran away with the cup he was just so afraid of retribution from the Clave. He burnt their house down to the ground. He wanted to convince the world he was dead. And the ashes we found were remains of a man and a child." Luke explained, "There was a child?" I asked, "Valentine was so enraged he wanted her to believe he killed himself and their son...your brother." Luke spoke and I sat down in a nearby chair at a loss for words. "I have a brother?" I asked, "Jonathon Christensen Morganstern." Luke said. As I tried to think about everything my phone began to ring. I answered it and heard Simon's voice on the line "Courtney? We found your mother." he said and I stood up "They found her. She's at the Institute." I told Luke.

Luke led us outside where there were a group of men waiting "This is Allory, he's one of us." Luke told me before we got into his truck and drove off. "Go ahead. You can hang your head out of the window if you need to." I smiled. "I'm a werewolf. Not...a golden retriever." Luke said. We arrived at the Institute and ran inside. As we rounded a corner Luke ended up with a sword at his throat "ISABELLE!" I yelled, "I almost killed you!" she yelled at Luke "I know." he stared at her, wide-eyed. I walked over to Simon and quickly hugged him. "This is a rescue mission, we are not equipped to fight demons." Allory told Luke as we started walking.
