As I looked into the distance a demon suddenly came through the window and grabbed a werewolf. Then all of the werewolves began transforming as more got snatched up by the demons. Isabelle directed us all through the hallway and slammed the door shut so no more demons could enter. "I COULD USE SOME HELP HERE, ALLORY!" Luke shouted "ALLORY!" he yelled again "It's not going to hold!" he said and I turned around and thought for a second before reaching down and taking the rune from her boot. She looked at me in confusion as I took off my glove and drew a symbol on my hand with the rune. "Step away." I spoke, "I Said step away!" I yelled and everyone backed up behind me as the doors burst open to reveal the demons. I stuck my hand in the air and closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes, the demons were frozen, I turned to look at Simon who was smiling at me.
"Courtney...how'd the rune do that?" Isabelle asked me "I don't know it just--" I stared "I've never seen it before." Isabelle stared at my hand "Really?" I asked, "It's not in the books." she said, "It's fading." I said before we all weaved through the cracking demons. "Go, we'll catch up." Luke said as I looked back at him and ran with Isabelle and Simon. We stopped in the middle of a hallway and I looked into the lit room and saw Valentine with my mother on a couch. Simon looked at me and I nodded before he ran with Isabelle. I quietly walked into the room and crept up behind Valentine, pressing a knife to his throat. "She is not going anywhere." I spoke through my teeth and stood up slowly. "How did you get up here?" he asked me. I stuck out my hand and gasped and he forcefully grabbed it "You're even more powerful than I anticipated." Valentine said, "Get away from her." I ordered as I backed away, the knife still against his throat.
As I backed away, the knife was suddenly ripped from my hand. "What the fuck?!" I yelled and turned to see Jace "Just listen to what he has to say!" he yelled and pointed to Valentine. "Finally, I've brought my children together. My daughter and my son." he said and I turned to look at Jace with tears in my eyes. "I'm so sorry, Courtney." Jace said with tears in his eyes. He was crying. "Jace, listen, I know he's lying. You're the son of Michael Wayland. Luke said my brother was dead, they found his remains in the ashes." I walked over to Jace. "I took Jonathon with me when I ran. The bones were of a child killed by wolves." Valentine said and Jace turned to me "I wish it weren't true." he spoke softly "Don't wish! You don't have to because it's not true!" I yelled, "She doesn't want to believe you." Valentine walked over to us "Because she's in love with you." Valentine said harshly as Jace turned his head away from me "I thought your name was Jace." I looked up at him.
"Jace is a nickname." Jace spoke. I walked away with more tears in my eyes as I kept repeating the name, Jace. I gasped for breath as I cried and then gasped with fear when Valentine came up behind me and grabbed me. He led me over to the table in front of the tarot card. "Take out my cup, Courtney." he said and I shook my head. He put his hand on the back of my head and shoved my face a mere inch away from the cup as I screamed "TAKE OUT MY CUP! I WANT MY CUP!" he shouted, "You said you wouldn't hurt her!" Jace yelled back before Valentine slapped him and lifted my head up. jace then removed one of the spears from the floor. "That's enough." Jace looked at Valentine. Valentine then proceeded to slam my head onto the table as I screamed and then was thrown to the floor. As I slowly woke up, I saw Jace and Valentine fighting so I took my chance and crawled to my mother.
"Mom?" I spoke as I put my hand on her head. I looked next to me to see the tarot cup fall to my knees. I picked u the card and stood up. I pulled out the cup and ran to the portal "STOP!" I screamed, "OR I'LL DROP IT!" I yelled again at Valentine as I held the Mortal Cup at the surface of the portal. "You don't wanna do that." Valentine said, "Don't give it to him, Courtney." Jace whispered and Valentine knocked him to the floor "LEAVE HIM ALONE!" I screamed again. "He is not my brother. I know the game you are trying to play and it won't work on me. Maybe on him, but not me. I'm smarter than you think I am, just like I'm more powerful than even you are." I said. I put my arm through the portal as I spoke and Valentine carefully walked up to me "I need you to listen to me." he said, "As your father, I am begging you." he said before running to the portal and sticking his arm through it, reaching for the cup but not being able to grasp it.
"If you've been a real dad, you would know me well enough to imagine where the cup is." I told him. "Where my deepest thoughts are taking it." I said as he looked into my eyes. "You don't know the first thing about me. You lied to try and weaken me. That block didn't block out my knowledge. I know Jace isn't my brother and he needs to know that too." I said. "You're not my dad...and you never will be." I shook my head "I promise you'll never have to see me again." he said and I pulled the cup out of the portal and handed it to him. "Thank you Courtney." he said as I backed away from him "Without this cup, we are lost." he said to me "Not we...you." I spat before using all my strength to kick him in the chest and push him through the portal. I looked behind me and saw Jace walking toward me.
As he slightly smiled at me, I felt arms grab my shoulders and pull me into the portal "COURTNEY!" Jace ran to me and grabbed my arms as I screamed "Don't let go!" I cried "Never!" Jace yelled as he pulled me and handed me the rune that I slammed into the portal and then it froze and Valentine let go. As Jace opened his mouth to speak, the portal began to burst and flood the library with water that soon turned to snow.
