"Jung Soo Jung!" Jessica Jung hollered my name, running over to me and giving me a kiss on the cheek.
"I missed you so much, you don't know how hard it's been being away from you for over 6 months." She feared up, holding my arms.
"My dongsaeng..." she sighed, a tear rolling down her cheek.
"I'm guessing you're my unnie." I smiled, embracing her.
She let go of me and pulled over to the table.
"Anja." She smiled, patting the seat next to her.
I bowed at the couple, my parents, and sat down.
"Annyeonghaseyo." I greeted.
They looked at each other and smiled, revealing the small wrinkles on their face.
"You're so young... you went through all of that yourself... we couldn't even take in all the sadness after the incident, but you're so young, how could you have held al of that in?" The woman asked.
"Mollayo." I answered, biting my lip.
Dammit, Soojung! I thought to myself.
To be honest, I haven't really been struggling with my past.
Sure, I thought about them time to time, and I really did wish that I had a family from time to time, but what could I do?
The man chuckled, holding his wife's hand.
"It's okay, yeobo. She's only a teenager." He grinned.
Jessica took my hand and said nothing as she cried tears of joy.
"Will you introduce yourselves?" I asked.
Dad raised his eyebrows, along with Mom.
"Ah, sorry. I forgot. My name is Jung Do Hyuk. This is my wife Jung Ah Na."
"Ah Na?" I asked, skeptical.
"Yes, Ah Na. Just like the English name 'Anna'."
"Are you American?" I asked Ah Na.
"Ani, ani. I'm Korean. My father served in the Korean War when I was in my mothers womb. My father had a British friend in the war with him, and his friend recommended the name 'Anna',"
"'They were very close; you would've thought they were emotionally brothers if you met them.' My mom told me." Ah Na told us.
I nodded, understanding that my Mom's family greatly appreciated the British/American society and economy.
"Jung Do Hyuk & Jung Ah Na... what is your name, Jessica?" I asked.
"My American and usual name is Jessica Jung, but my Korean name is Jung Soo Yeon."
"Ne~" I took note of everything that's been said so far.
"So, Sooyeon, tell us about your story." Dad gestured.
Jessica nodded, and began telling her story.
"About 6-6 1/2 months ago, I was taking a nap when my manager called me. 'Hey, Jessica... I don't know how to say this... ugh... you're family is in the hospital. Th- they're getting quarantined.' He stuttered on the phone. It gave me a heart attack. I hadn't known what had happened to you three, and I couldn't believe that you, or you guys, did something so wrong to have your memories removed from you. I immediately got my keys and raced to my car, but every staff in the building stopped me. They wouldn't let me go to where you guys were staying. They didn't even let me say farewell. I bawled and begged for them to let me out, but they wouldn't. They dragged me back to my room. I threw a tantrum and cried until my eyes were drier than the desert."
She continued,
"You all were being quarantined the next day. Your memories were swiped, and your identity was taken from you. I felt like being quarantined myself, because I didn't want to remember anything that had happened that week."
"There were two other people who go quarantined. Who were they? Lee- Lee Tae Min? Yeah. Lee Tae Min and Kim Jong In. All the fans were frustrated when Taemin went to the hospital."
"Kim Jong In was bawling when he left the building. His eyes were just pure red; it was just solid red. His eyes showed sorrow and was flushing water out of his eyes every second. 'Jebal! I need to be with her!' He begged. Poor thing, I wondered what had happened."
"And about you two..." she stopped.
We pressured her go go on.
"Andwaeyo." Jessica stopped herself.
"Why?" Mom asked, folding her hands together.
"They gave me a chance... I witnessed- no, I heard it. They would've quarantined me; they would have. But- but I was so popular... they couldn't do that to me. They made me sign a contract... they forced me to!" She cried.
"Please go on..." I begged.
I was dead curious by that point. I wanted to know what happened to me in the past.
That's all I wanted that moment.
I just wanted my past.
"I'm sorry, Soojung. I can't. They'll kill me!" She whispered, sobs coming out of her mouth.
"Don't cry, Princess. It's okay." Dad coaxed, getting up to pat her head.
Out of nowhere, there were sirens.
Police sirens.
Chaos began to stir around us.
Within a flash, there were police surrounding us.
"What's going on?" Mom asked, walking over to Jessica and I.
She stood in front of us with her arms spread out, protecting us.
"I just met them for the first time since my memories were swiped. I beg of you, please explain what's wrong." She demanded.
"Hand Jung Soo Yeon over." One of the policemen said.
There were 8 police surrounding us, no way to escape this mess.
"No." Mom answered.
"Okay, we'll do this the hard away." The policeman shrugged, shoving Mom aside and grabbed Jessica forcefully.
He took the handcuffs off his belt and tied Jessica's hands together.
"Please explain what's going on!" I cried, trying to stop the policeman from cuffing Soo Yeon.
The policeman ignored me and started to walk toward the stairs.
Jessica brushed passed by me and whispered into my ear, "They watch every move." before she was officially gone out our sight.
All of the remaining policemen started clearing out, saying nothing to us.
I slowly sat down in my chair, processing what had just happened.
I guess you could say that love doesn't last that long when the spark has been put out by the water.
