Matthew POV:

Since Riley's birthday, a few weeks have gone by, and we've grown closer—as friends, of course.

She has spoken to me about practically every aspect of her life, and I have conversed with her about mine, but I have not yet shown her.

She meets my family today.

I ring her first before catching her off guard.

"Good morning, Ry," I greet

"Morning, Matty. What's up!" The question is brought up by her.

"Do you have today off? My examinations are over." I ask

"Me too; I think I did quite well, owing to you. Your flashcards have a lot of detail." She laughs

"You underestimate me, as you can see. I am knowledgeable in my field." I chuckle

"Alright, I'm not gonna feed your ginormous ego any longer, what do you wanna do today? Rachel is busy helping out Addison with something at the campus. She let me go because I'd been chained to her for too long. I should've stayed with Rachel though, Addison is like chatty freaking Cathy. She is worse than my parents." Riley chuckles

"I was wondering if you want to meet my family today. My Mother and my Aunt Sidney? They'd love to meet you." I announce, nervously.

"Of course! I'd love to meet them. I'll be down in ten. We have to make a stop at Target, I need to get a few things." She reminds me.

"Yeah, I'll be in my car. See you soon, Riles!" I hang up.

A few minutes later, she pulls up by my car looking gorgeous in a casual summer dress. She can appear so elegant in any outfit. She is naturally beautiful.

"I apologize profusely, is this too much? I was going to wear some shorts and a top, but I thought this outfit was adorable instead. It's too inappropriate, isn't it." She fears

"No Riley. You appear to be lovely. Don't worry; my family will adore you because they don't pass judgment. Hopefully, Mom is lucid today, it would be nice to have a proper conversation." I sigh

"Okay, so Orchids for Mom and Gardenias for Aunt Sidney. Do you need anything?" I'm amazed that she remembered their favourite flowers.

"Uh, no. I'm all good, thanks." I smile and watch her walk into the store.

It's really sweet that she's trying to make a good impression on them. This is something that a girlfriend would do though, not my best friend. But, she's more than that, she knows I love her and that I care deeply about her. It's just the right person, the wrong time.

She returns bearing two bouquets and greeting cards. We arrive at the long-term care facility fifteen minutes after we left.
