"You're late." The King said, yawning. "I've been waiting for you..." He looked at his wrist as if he wore a watch, "For half an hour."
Bren locked his eyes with the King's. For a moment, I thought they were going to burn each other by staring.
"Well, I don't suppose you had any work to do other than playing with everyone's lives." Bren countered, looking ready to burst into flames. I felt like they had some history that we didn't know about.
The King was going to say something but stopped when his gaze fell upon Thiela. He squinted his eyes at her as if making sure it was his wife. For once, I saw something other than destruction in his eyes- Love.
"What are you doing here?" He asked her, not taking his eyes off of her.
Thiela smirked, "Betraying you, of course." It seemed like she had wanted to say this for a long time. "Never thought I'd do that, did you?"
"But I thought you were with me in this plan. Are you also working with Zeth?"
I saw the chance to say something clever and I took it. "No, but she realized the right path. So should you."
Oliver leaned in to whisper, "Nice dialogue."
"Thanks," I whispered back.
At last, he lifted his gaze from Thiela. "Never gonna happen. I know I'm doing the right thing for all the giants even if some disagree."
"I don't think we're gonna let you do your right thing," Nexiana said, hatred in her eyes for the King for controlling her and capturing Linent.
"How're you going to stop me?" He raised his eyebrows, rolling the stone, Aquatenite, across his arm and into his palm.
And the fight began. Tyrek ran towards the King yelling a war cry with Bren at his heels. A trident had appeared in Bren's hand when he had said a magic word. I could see Thiela shooting one of her knives toward the King but he caught it in his hand. Linent and Nexiana too had jumped into the fight. Linent snapped his fingers to conjure his bow and arrow. Two fell into his hand. He passed one to Nexiana and she barely caught it.
"Need to shake off some rust." She commented, already starting to aim.
Oliver had also called upon his daggers. I tried to use my powers but I didn't know how to. It just happened whenever it wanted to.
"Feels like I'm the only one without weapons." I thought, embarrassed.
As if reading my thoughts, Oliver passed me one of his daggers. "Let's see how much you've trained in Havenland." He gave me a confident smile and jumped into the fight.
I hesitated. I'd never fought in actual combat before. I just had a little training from Olivia.
"Let us see what I'm capable of," I told myself as I readied the dagger.
I looked all around. Nexiana and Linent had hidden behind bushes and were shooting arrows at the King's upper body. Tyrek galloped around the King, confusing him. Bren had his trident raised towards the King. He waited for the King to be distracted by Tyrek. As soon as he started to fix his gaze on Tyrek, Bren threw the trident with all his force toward the King. It hit him in the stomach. It didn't do much other than shock him for a few seconds. Oliver took his chance in those seconds and stabbed him on vital points. Thiela was trying to defend herself from her own knife in the King's hand while attacking once in a while.
I tried to find some weak spots of the King. Some spots where I could attack that were undefended. Nothing seemed to be much help.
"What if I attack unexpectedly?" I asked myself. It sounded good. But the only question- How?
While I was thinking, an agonized scream filled the air. An arrow had whipped past me and struck the King in the eye. He covered his eye and he was breathing heavily. A streak of blood flowed down his chin.
I turned my gaze towards Linent. He had shifted to another bush, nearer to the King. His bow was pointed at the eye in shock. He looked amazed at himself. A layer of accomplishment surrounded him.
That gave me an idea. I took off to Linent's hiding place, grabbed his hand, and dragged him back.
"Still have the hertillision pearl?" I inquired. I suspected I looked gravely serious because Linent took a cautious step back.
"A guy can't even enjoy his achievement for a moment." He grumbled, pouting.
I stared at him, waiting for an answer.
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I have the pearl. Why?" He said, casually.
"Good," I told him what he had to do. He simply nodded and got to his job. This had to work. I was capable of doing this much.
