First day at camp

"Blue, hey, eyes on me!" I yelled as I moved closer to her. I put my hand out to touch her when all of a sudden a pig was released and I was pulled out of the pin.

"What the hell we're you thinking you could've gotten yourself killed!" Someone yelled. I didn't have to look to see I already knew who it was. It was my older brother Owen, well actually adoptive brother. "I thought I told you to stay out of the raptor pin." He said while glaring at me. "But I had it, she wasn't going to hurt me." I replied defensively. At this Owen sighed and handed me a ticket. I gave him a confused look and he noticed then continued to say "Your going to the new camp here, Camp Cretaceous." My eyes widened and I couldn't speak. I had always wanted to go to Camp Cretaceous and now finally I had the chance to.

When I arrived there were already 5 other kids there and 1 adult. "Hello campers I'm Dave your head counselor. Yes you heard that right head honcho, the big guy, the only and only-" Just then a jeep pulls up cutting Dave off and a woman gets out. "Hey guys sorry I'm late. I'm Roxie your head counselor" I look over at Dave and so do the rest of the kids. "It's like a co- head counselor thing" he says nervously. Roxie rolls her eyes as Dave try's to change the subject "alright let's get the 7 of you to camp." "Wait there are only 6 of us" the scrawny one said. "Wait, Dino-kid, tracks star, internet girl, barfy, Texas, and raptor girl. He's right where's the 7th?" Dave says as Roxie looks down at the chart and sighs. "Follow me" she said as we start walking towards the helicopter landing pad.

A helicopter lands and a snotty rich looking dude stepped out. "What's up my dudes Kenji here" he throws his bag at Roxie and tells her to put it in his room and walks up to me. "So what's your deal-" he gets cut short because his bag is thrown at the back of his head. Roxie dust her hands off and walks towards the truck. "Alright let's go" she says.

We all get in the bed of the truck and she's drives off. "Alright I'm going to need y'all to say who you are and a little bit about yourself andddd action!" The girl in pink says as she pushes the camera in Dino kids face. "Oh ummm I beat a dinosaur vr game I'm Darius by the way-" he gets cut off by the county girl saying "I'm sorry I just can't believe that your Brooklyn!" "I'm Sammy Gutierrez, total Brooklander!" "Oh also my family supplies all the beef for the park so that's how I'm here." I decided to speak up "Um what's a brooklander?" "Oh it's just what my online followers call themselves" Brooklyn answers. "Yeah all 27 million of us" Sammy adds. "Yep that's why she's the only one that gets to keep her phone because she's famous" Yas says sarcastically. "Hold on rich and famous it was meant to be" Kenji says. I roll my eyes at that he seems like a f boy to me. Suddenly the truck comes to a stop and Dave and Roxie get out. "What's going on?" Ben asks. "Nothing you need to worry about but you should all stay in your seats" Dave replies and obviously none of us stay in our seats. I hear something in the bushes. "Um guys..." I say as I look over to what I heard and so does Darius. "Guys.." he say a bit louder than I did. Just then a compy jumps out the bush and on to Darius making him fall back and us scream. Darius opened his eyes and gasped. The compy jumps out the truck and Roxie catches it and puts it in a cage. "Crisis averted" she said. "Is that a real life compsognathus!" Darius says with excitement but kenji rolls his eyes. "Come on it only took a blanket and a cat cage to catch it lame." "It scared you pretty good" I add and everyone laughs but kenji.

When we get to camp everyone races to get a bunk bed except for me and Darius. I watch as they take the compy away and see the disappointment on Darius's face. "Hey you good" I say. "It's my first time see a real dinosaur" he replies. "Pretty cool huh?" "It's amazing." We start walking back to the camp rooms. "Ok announcement time." Roxie says. "Y'all have a curfew at 8:00 and lights out at 9 sharp." She says and everyone but Ben groans "it's for your on safety" she goes on. "I never got your name" Darius say. "oh yea I'm Makayla" I reply "GRADY? YOUR MAKAYLA GRADY OWEN GRADYS SISTER THE RAPTOR TRAINER!" I look down embarrassed that he knows me. He notices this and apologizes "sorry Makayla didn't mean to embarrass you I just find it super cool what you and your brother do!" "It's actually just my brother he doesn't think I'm ready to try and gain their trust" "well I think he's wrong I've seen videos of you with other dinosaurs I think you would be a great Dino trainer" "thanks but wait if you've seen videos of me then how did you not recognize me" " I honestly don't know I guess I just wasn't paying attention" We started talking about our favorite dinosaurs and Darius showed his inner nerd.

After a while Dave and Roxie got all the kids together and brought us to a zip line. Ben was terrified to be up there but everyone else loved it. "Look theres a Brachiosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus!" Darius says with excitement. "Wow you really do know your stuff" I say. "Yea Dino-nerd" Brooklyn adds. "Check out the... brontosaurus." Kenji says trying to impress us but ended up failing because of Darius. "They don't have those here, common mistake." Darius adds. I chuckled at this. We all line up for the zip line. Ben goes first but not by choice, then yas, Sammy, Brooklyn, kenji, Darius, and finally me. The zip line was amazing and Darius loved it. It was so cute seeing his face light up and him reach down to touch a dinosaur- wait cute did I just call Darius cute. No no no were just friends with common interest. Yea that's it. When we get back to camp we all go to our rooms.

Later that night I wake up to people talking in the kitchen. I get out of bed and notice Brooklyn's gone. "Looks like we're going rogue" Brooklyn says "what are y'all planning" I say as I raise my eye brow making them jump. "How long have you been there" Darius says with a shaky voice "not long" I reply "look we're going to the compy pen it would be super cool if you could come with" Darius say. "Alright bet I'm in." I add. When we get to the pen, something seems familiar. We go up the stairs to get to the top of the pin and that's when it clicks. "Guys this isn't the compy pin!" I yell but I'm to late...
